Saudi Stock Exchange Tick Higher


Riyadh: The Saudi Stock Exchange main index ticked 53.58 points up on Tuesday, to close at 12476.59 points.

A total of 270 million shares were traded across 550,000 transactions with a total trading value of SAR 7.6 billion.

The shares of 82 companies rose, while those of 135 declined.

Meanwhile, the Saudi Parallel Market Index (NOMU) dipped 36.16 points to close at 26144.87 with a trading value of SAR 64 million.

This downtick was observed across 3288 deals with a total traded shares of 1.1 million.

OIC Condemns Targeting of Humanitarian Team in Gaza


Jeddah: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has strongly condemned the Israeli occupation forces for bombing a team of workers from international relief organizations in Gaza. The OIC considered this a continuation of Israel’s violation of international laws and relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council. The OIC called on the international community to call upon Israel to fully abide by international humanitarian law and relevant UN resolutions. In addition, the OIC called for an urgent and total cessation of Israeli aggression in Gaza.

The OIC emphasized the need to safeguard civilians, infrastructure, and relief workers and ensure the adequate and sustainable delivery of humanitarian aid to all parts of the Gaza Strip.

UAE leaders congratulate Egyptian President on taking constitutional oath

ABU DHABI: President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has sent a message of congratulations to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on taking the constitutional oath for a new presidential term.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai; and His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Presidential Court, sent similar messages to the Egyptian President.

Egyptian Pres. vows protection of nat’l interests amid global tension

CAIRO, President Abdulfattah Al-Sisi affirmed on Tuesday that he would safeguard national security and interests of Egypt amid tumultuous regional and international tensions.

Delivering a speech to parliament after taking the constitutional oath Al-Sisi said, “I took an oath upon myself to uphold Egypt’s security and the well-being of its people, and achieve its development and progress as my paramount objective.” “Domestic menace of terrorism, sudden global crises, and fierce international and regional wars raging around us. Those imposed unprecedented challenges, unparalleled in their magnitude and severity throughout Egypt’s modern history.” “We would not have been able to persevere through these challenges without the greatness of our people and their extraordinary efforts over the past years to rebuild our homeland and solidify its foundations, enabling us to surmount any hardships,” he affirmed.

The Egyptian President stated, “I would like to outline the key features and objectives that will define ou
r national action in the coming phase.. With regard to Egypt’s foreign relations: The priority is to protect and preserve Egypt’s national security in a turbulent regional and international milieu and to work toward forging balanced relations with all actors in a new world.” “On the political level: to complete and deepen the national dialogue in the coming phase and implement the recommendations agreed upon across the various political, economic and social levels among others, as part of efforts to strengthen the political and democratic engagement, notably by the youth.” He went on to say that Egypt must adopt strategies that maximize its'” economic capabilities and resources, and enhance the solidity and resilience of the Egyptian economy in the face of crises, while achieving strong, sustainable and balanced economic growth, strengthening the role of the private sector as a key partner in leading development, focusing on the sectors of agriculture, industry, communications and information technology, and
tourism and increasing their contribution to the GDP gradually.” “This is, in addition to expanding the area of agricultural land and productivity to achieve food security for Egypt, attracting more local and foreign investments to generate millions of sustainable jobs, while giving priority to local manufacturing programs to increase exports and Egypt’s foreign exchange earnings,” Al-Sisi said.

Adopting a comprehensive institutional reform aimed “at ensuring financial discipline and achieving sound governance by rationalizing public expenditure, enhancing public revenues, and moving towards more sustainable paths for public debt. This is in addition to transforming Egypt into a regional hub for transportation and transit trade, new and renewable energy, and green hydrogen and its derivatives and boosting the economic role of the Suez Canal.” He called for leveraging “Egypt’s wealth of human resources by improving the quality of education for our children and continuing to activate programs and initiatives i
n order to improve citizen’s public health and complete the stages of the comprehensive health insurance project.” The President stressed the importance of supporting social safety nets, increase the percentage of expenditure on social protection, increase allocations for the “Takaful and Karama” cash support program, as well as complete all stages of the “Decent Life” initiative, which is considered the largest development initiative in the history of Egypt, to achieve a substantial improvement in the standard of living of citizens in the targeted villages.” He called for the implementation of the strategic plan for urban development and complete the construction of new fourth generation cities, while developing major unplanned areas and completing the “Housing for All Egyptians” program, which primarily targets the youth and low-income families.

Earlier on, President Al-Sisi swore the constitutional oath for a six-year term.

Abdullah bin Zayed sends cables of condolence over victims of ‘World Central Kitchen’ attack

ABU DHABI: H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs, sent cables of condolence to Penny Wong, Australian Foreign Minister; Radoslaw Sikorski, Foreign Minister of the Republic of Poland; David Cameron, British Foreign Secretary; Antony Blinken, United States Secretary of State; MĂ©lanie Jolie, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada; Ali Muhammad Younis, ChargĂ© d’Affaires of the Embassy of the State of Palestine in Abu Dhabi; and Jose Andres, Founder of the World Central Kitchen (WCK) organisation over the victims of the Israeli targeting of a team of humanitarian relief workers from World Central Kitchen.

Sheikh Abdullah also expressed the UAE’s condemnation in the strongest terms of the Israeli occupation forces targeting with an air strike on a WCK aid convoy which resulted in the death of seven members of its team and a number of injuries. The WCK personnel were in Gaza to enhance the humanitarian response provided to civilians in the northern Gaza Strip who are suffering from a
tragic situation and facing famine.

He expressed his deep regret for the loss of life, and his condolences to the families of the victims, wishing a speedy recovery to all those injured.

The UAE top diplomat stressed the UAE’s call on Israeli authorities to conduct an urgent, independent and transparent investigation, and accept full responsibility, and to strengthen the humanitarian response to meet the needs of civilians affected by the current crisis.

H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed reiterated the importance of focusing regional and international efforts on protecting civilians and providing them with immediate humanitarian assistance, in addition to intensifying efforts aimed at halting escalation in the occupied Palestinian Territory and in the region.

Muslim World League condemns attack on Iranian consulate in Damascus

JEDDAH, The Muslim World League (MWL) condemned, Tuesday, the attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, Syria, resulting in multiple deaths and injuries. The League affirmed, in a statement, its immense disapproval of targeting and attacking diplomatic and civilian facilities protected under humanitarian and international laws. The Syrian Arab Republic announced yesterday, Monday, the Israeli occupation’s missile attacks resulted in multiple deaths and injuries in the Iranian consulate in Mazze district in Damascus.
