Ahmed bin Saeed named ‘Person of the Year’ by Hamdan Bin Rashid Foundation for Medical and Educational Sciences

DUBAI: The Board of Trustees of the Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation for Medical and Educational Sciences announced that it has chosen H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Chairman of Dubai Airports and Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group, for the ‘Person of the Year 2024’ accolade in appreciation of his significant contributions to education and charity, particularly through his leadership of the Emirates Airline Foundation.

The recognition also salutes Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed’s unstinting support as patron of various community organisations that have aligned their efforts with government initiatives to support children, students, and people of determination.

Al Qatami highlighted the Hamdan Foundation’s appreciation for H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed’s devotion to national and humanitarian values while continuing to serve as an inspiring example of dedication, generosity, and perseverance, particularly when it came to promoting access to good education for all.

Over the past 38 years, H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed has been at the forefront of Dubai’s remarkable economic transformation, spearheading the successful expansion of the aviation sector, which contributes immensely to the emirate’s GDP, while also helping formulate economic, investment, and fiscal policies and strategies in support of the emirate’s overarching development vision.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed embarked on a caree
r in the aviation industry in 1985 when he was appointed President of the Dubai Department of Civil Aviation (DCA), the entity that at the time oversaw the activities of the Dubai International (DXB) and Dubai Duty Free, among others.

The same year, Emirates – Dubai’s international airline – was launched with Sheikh Ahmed as its Chairman. He is currently the Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group, which includes dnata, one of the world’s leading providers of aviation and travel services that cater to other aviation-related entities as well. Emirates has since gone on to become one of the world’s most recognisable airline brands with a global footprint across six continents, connecting diverse peoples and facilitating global trade.

KUNA media development ctr end training course


KUNA Center for Media Skills Development concluded on Thursday its training program on advanced English news writing.

The course, which started on May 12th, saw the participation of KUNA employees and counterparts from the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) and Qatar’s News Agency (QNA).

The program was presented by KUNA’s Deputy Editorial Chief Bader Al-Sharhan who said in a press release that participants were introduced to new writing skills, as well as discussed the challenges journalists face in news writing.

KUNA Center for the Development of Media Skills was established in 1995 to train media personnel and elevate their skills.

Tahnoon bin Zayed chairs Abu Dhabi Investment Authority Board of Directors meeting

ABU DHABI: His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Presidential Court, and H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of Abu Dhabi Executive Council, witnessed the meeting of the Board of Directors of Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA), which was chaired by H.H. Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Board of Directors of ADIA.

The meeting was attended by H.H. Sheikh Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Managing Director of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority; and board members: Khalil Mohammed Sharif Foulathi, Jassem Mohamed Bu Ataba Al Zaabi, and Hamad Mohammed Al Hurr Al Suwaidi; along with Musabah Khamis Al Mazrouei, the Board’s rapporteur.

The meeting featured discussions on the agenda items, including ADIA’s performance reports and its recent notable achievements. Moreover, it delved into market conditions and outlined the Authority’s future strategies a
imed at bolstering its global leadership position.

The Board of Directors commended the attained results.

Kuwait Amir Representative arrives in Bahrain


Representative of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, arrived in Bahrain Thursday to take part in the 33rd Arab League Summit.

The Amir’s Representative was received by Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, the personal representative of the King of Bahrain, His Highness Sheikh Isa bin Abdullah bin Hamad Al- Khalifa, the Assistant Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmad Rashid Khattabi, and the Kuwaiti Ambassador to Bahrain, Sheikh Thamer Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and the head of the honorary delegation accompanying the Ambassador of Bahrain to Kuwait, Salah Ali Al-Maliki.

Death toll in Indonesia’s lava floods rises to 67

WEST SUMATRA: The death toll from the cold lava floods of Mount Marapi in West Sumatra reached 67 on Thursday morning, the Indonesian news agency (ANTARA) quoted the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) as saying.

Abdul Muhari, Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Centre, highlighted an increase in the figure after the joint SAR team successfully located several individuals previously reported missing. Presently, there are 20 victims still missing, compared to the earlier count of 35 people.

Moreover, he noted that the disaster impacted 989 families, marking a decrease from the previously recorded 1,543 families. However, he mentioned that the number of injured victims has risen by 44 people, compared to the earlier count of 33 individuals.

On Wednesday, the BNPB reported that the death toll from flash floods in West Sumatra had reached 58, with 1,543 families affected and 33 people injured.

Kuwaiti woman plays major role in country’s progress — Deputy FM


The Kuwaiti woman has played a substantial role in the State of Kuwait’s progress and prosperity, motivated by her dedication to the homeland, said the Deputy Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah on Thursday.

She plays a pivotal role at the level of the national economy, said the Deputy Foreign Minister during inauguration of a forum, organizaed by Kuwait Petroleum Corporation, themed “Kuwait has its own women.” The forum marking Kuwait Woman Day was attended by diplomats.

The forum constitutes an opportunity to shed light on the Kuwaiti woman’s distinguished role and her contributions to the homeland establishment and progress at the economic, political, social and cultural levels, he said

The Deputy Foreign Minister said organizing the forum, in coordination between the foreign department and the KPC, mirrored the State of Kuwait’s substantial concern for the female citizens namely their major role in the oil sector.

This concern is in line with national policies dating back to the tim
es of establishing the State of Kuwait, out of the belief that the woman “is a prime section of the community and a key for progress and development,” Sheikh Jarrah Jaber said.

May 15 is an important day, celebrated annually to mark the Kuwaiti women accomplishments, he has affirmed.

The Kuwaiti woman has been playing a distinguished role at the social, political, itelligent and cultural levels, he said, noting that the state has taken many decisions intended to bolster the woman status at the local and external levels.
