Tunisia Rescues 231 Illegal Migrants

Tunisian authorities announced that 231 illegal migrants were rescued, a statement released by Tunisian National Guard said.

The statement added that the maritime units managed to thwart five operations to cross its maritime borders and rescued 231 illegal migrants, of them 172 people from sub-Saharan African countries. They also arrested 10 persons who were trying to cross the maritime borders.

Tunisia had announced rescuing more than 14,000 illegal migrants during the first quarter of 2023.

Tunisia is a transit point for thousands of migrants from sub-Saharan countries, heading to the European coasts, particularly Italy.
