CGTN launches ‘Media Challengers’ theme song

BEIJING, June 8, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — China Global Television Network (CGTN) launches the official song and music video for The Media Challengers – its global campaign to shine a spotlight on up-and-coming presenters, reporters and influencers – on Monday.

Titled “The Media Challengers,” the four-minute song features CGTN anchors Ji Xiaojun, Tian Wei, Wang Guan, Eva May, Kui Yingchun and Zhou Heyang.

Shortlisted participants will enter CGTN’s global talent bank and receive professional training. CGTN: Peng Liyuan calls for global efforts in AIDS and TB prevention and treatment

BEIJING, June 8, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Peng Liyuan, wife of Chinese President Xi Jinping, called on people from all walks of life in all countries to join hands and take action to strengthen the prevention and treatment of AIDS and tuberculosis (TB), in order to benefit all mankind and build a global community of health for all.

Peng, also World Health Organization (WHO) Goodwill Ambassador for Tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS, made the remarks via video link on Monday at the opening ceremony of a special high-level event on the sidelines of the United Nations High-Level Meeting on AIDS.

The event aimed to provide a platform for WHO member states to reassert their commitment to ending TB deaths among people living with HIV and deliberate on how they will intensify the response to HIV-associated TB in the context of COVID-19.

Peng said the global fight against AIDS and TB has achieved remarkable results in recent years thanks to the concerted efforts made by the international community.

China has gradually established a cooperation mechanism between prevention and control institutions of AIDS and TB, she said. The country has kept the prevalence of AIDS at a low level, and in the past 20 years, the incidence of TB has dropped by more than 40 percent and the mortality rate by more than 70 percent.

These achievements have been made due to the attention paid by the Chinese government, the efforts of the medical personnel and the silent contributions of the volunteers, she said.

Peng also shared some touching stories and expressed her respect for people and volunteers worldwide who have contributed to the prevention and treatment of the diseases.

Major communicable diseases are among the common challenges facing mankind, and it is people’s common wish to end the threats of AIDS and TB, said Peng.

She added that the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has brought more challenges to the containment of the diseases, calling for global efforts to protect lives and forge ahead.

Emirates expands its services in France with restart of Nice and Lyon as country reopens for quarantine-free travel

DUBAI, Emirates will resume flights from Dubai to Nice from 2nd July and Lyon from 9th July, initially offering 4 flights a week to each city. The move is in line with France easing its entry requirements for visitors, starting tomorrow, 9th June. The lifting of entry restrictions will enable travellers based in the UAE to visit France without the need for quarantine.

From tomorrow, Emirates customers in the UAE are eligible for quarantine-free entry into France if they have completed the two week period after taking both doses of the Pfizer/BioNTech or AstraZeneca vaccine.

In addition, fully vaccinated customers must also hold a negative COVID-19 PCR-RT valid for 72 hours prior to departure, or a Rapid Antigen test result no more than 48 hours old.

Emirates will serve both Nice and Lyon with its modern and comfortable wide body Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. Emirates flight EK077 will depart Dubai to Nice on Mondays, Wednesday, Fridays and Sundays, at 0845hrs, arriving at Nice Côte d’Azur Airport at 1340hrs.

The return flight, EK078, will depart Nice at 1555hrs arriving in Dubai at 0010hrs the next day. Emirates flight EK081 will depart Dubai to Lyon on Mondays, Wednesday, Fridays and Sundays, at 1435hrs, arriving at Lyon–Saint Exupéry Airport at 1930hrs. The return flight, EK082, will depart Lyon at 2145hrs arriving in Dubai at 0605hrs the next day.

Emirates currently operates 14 weekly flights to/from Paris, flying its customer favourite and flagship A380, fitted with its latest premium economy product and refreshed products across every cabin.

As more international destinations begin easing their entry restrictions, Emirates will expand its services to provide more choice and convenience for customers who can now plan travel to more than 30 cities in 19 countries across the Emirates network that have opened their doors for tourism and business, quarantine free.

10 new schools set to open in Dubai in 2021-22 academic year

Dubai, Dubai’s Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) announced today that ten new schools are set to open in Dubai in the 2021-22 academic year.

An additional 14,671 new seats will be added to Dubai’s education landscape with the opening of the new schools, according to new data released by the Authority.

Mohammed Darwish, CEO of Permits and Compliance at KHDA said, “We are happy to welcome ten new schools to Dubai, which will now provide parents with more educational choices. The addition of the new schools is part of our commitment to delivering high-quality education and efforts to further consolidate Dubai’s growth as a global education destination.”

The schools opening this year are located in Tilal Al Ghaf, Al Warqa, Al Karama, Al Barsha, City Walk, Mirdif, Nad Al Sheba, Al Khawaneej and Rashidiya.

Building on strong demand from parents for innovative education offerings, the new schools offer a choice of Australian, UK, US and IB curricula.

“The continued demand for new schools reflects the resilience of Dubai’s private education sector and reflects the success of our strategy to attract high-quality schools that meet Dubai’s aspirations and needs,” Darwish added.

This year will mark the opening of the first ever Australian curriculum school in Dubai. Additionally, the first Dubai campus of Britain’s prestigious 500-year-old Royal Grammar School Guildford is expected to open later this year, taking the total number of international branch schools in Dubai to seven.

A total of 25 new private schools have opened in Dubai over the last three years. Between November 2020 and February 2021, Dubai witnessed a 2.6 percent overall growth in school enrolment, according to the latest landscape report released in February 2021 by KHDA

OPEC daily basket price stood at $70.14 a barrel Monday

VIENNA, The price of OPEC basket of thirteen crudes stood at $70.14 a barrel on Monday, 7th June, compared with $70.21 the previous Friday, according to OPEC Secretariat calculations.

The OPEC Reference Basket of Crudes (ORB) is made up of the following: Saharan Blend (Algeria), Girassol (Angola), Djeno (Congo), Zafiro (Equatorial Guinea), Rabi Light (Gabon), Iran Heavy (Iran), Basra Light (Iraq), Kuwait Export (Kuwait), Es Sider (Libya), Bonny Light (Nigeria), Arab Light (Saudi Arabia), Murban (UAE) and Merey (Venezuela).
