UAE completes athletes and accompanying delegations’ registration procedures at the Tokyo Olympics

DUBAI, The UAE sports delegation has completed all issues related to the registration of the athletic delegation and the accompanying administrative delegations to participate in the Olympic Games hosted by the Japanese capital, Tokyo, from 23rd July to 8th August, with the participation of 11,000 athletes from 206 countries competing in 33 sports, in 339 competitions in 42 Sports facilities.

Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Director of the UAE delegation to the Olympic Games, made sure of the various procedures and updates set by the Games Organising Committee, as a comprehensive inventory of the various steps for arrival, luggage receipt and periodic medical swabs, whether after reaching Tokyo or during competition periods, was made.

Al-Tayeb was acquainted with the transport and movement schedules for the athletes through Organising Committee Platforminside the Olympic Village, which is divided into many departments concerned with the medical and health aspects, accommodation and subsistence.

The UAE national judo team reaches the Japanese capital, Tokyo, on Saturday, from Moldova, after the conclusion of its training camp. The shooter Saif bin Fetais and Dr. Abdullah Al Rahoumi, Vice President of the Sports Medicine Committee of the Olympic Committee and the doctor of the delegation participating in the Olympic Games in Tokyo, will also arrive on the same day.

Self-driving cars are deployed inside the Olympic Village to serve the participating delegations to move around and reach the various sites.

New water connections in Dubai double between 2016 and 2020

DUBAI, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has announced that new water connections have doubled between 2016 and 2020. The number of new water connections increased to 67,768 in 2020 compared to 31,108 in 2016; an increase of around 118 percent.

The total number of water connections increased from 666,006 in 2016 to 911,509 by the end of May 2021; an increase of around 37 percent. The growth of water demand is due to new projects across different economic sectors.

“We strive to increase the efficiency and reliability of the water networks, increase the water flow to keep up with growing demand, increase water reserves, and provide outstanding electricity and water services for more than a million customers in Dubai according to the highest standards of availability, reliability, efficiency, and safety,” Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, said.

In 2020, DEWA witnessed an increase in new connections across residential, commercial, and industrial sectors.

DEWA maintains a surplus in production to meet the reserve margin for peak water demand. DEWA’s installed capacity of desalinated water is 490 Million Imperial Gallons per Day (MIGD). Peak water demand has reached 378 MIGD.

DEWA currently has 43 Multi-Stage Flash (MSF) water desalination units with a total production capacity of 427 MIGD of water at the D-, E-, G-, K-, L and M Stations. It also has 2 Sea water reverse osmosis (SWRO) plants with a production capacity of 63 MIGD. DEWA’s total production capacity of desalinated water is 490 MIGD at the Jebel Ali Power Plant and Desalination Complex.

UAE leaders offer condolences to German President and Chancellor over floods victims

ABU DHABI, President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has sent messages of condolences to President Frank-Walter Steinmeier of the Federal Republic of Germany, and Angela Merkel, the German Chancellor, on the victims of the massive flooding that hit the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, also dispatched similar messages to the German leaders.
