Mohamed Salah wins FWA award for second time

DUBAI, Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has won the prestigious Football Writers’ Association (FWA) Footballer of the Year award for a second time, it was announced on Friday.

The 29-year-old enjoyed a vote share of 48% ahead of Manchester City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne and West Ham United’s Declan Rice to scoop the prize.

Elsewhere, Chelsea striker Sam Kerr also won the women’s Footballer of the Year award after another stellar campaign. The 28-year-old claimed the prize with 40% of the vote, beating Arsenal striker Vivianne Miedema and Manchester City’s Lauren Hemp.

FWA chair Carrie Brown said: “Both Mo and Sam have been outstanding this season, breaking records for both club and country. As well as their performances on the pitch, they are leaders and standard bearers of excellence at their clubs and respective leagues.

“The fact they have won by such convincing margins underlines just how impressive they have been this season which has been recognised by our members.”

du contributes AED1 million to Al Jalila Foundation

DUBAI, du, from Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company (EITC), is donating AED1 million to Al Jalila Foundation, a global charity organisation dedicated to transforming lives through medical research, education and treatment.

The donation was announced by Fahad Al Hassawi, Chief Executive Officer at du, and Dr. Abdulkareem Al Olama, Chief Executive Officer at Al Jalila Foundation.

du’s contribution will help fund the foundation’s latest projects, including research grants that have created training opportunities for more than 400 young students and post-doctoral associates in the UAE, and contributed to 321 publications in multiple international scientific journals and 284 conference presentations.

In addition, projects funded by Al Jalila Foundation have led to six patent inventions, four new discoveries and numerous local as well as international awards for research excellence.

Al Hosn green pass validity extended to 30 days to enter federal entities

DUBAI, The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) today issued a circular to all ministries and federal entities, amending some procedures aimed to combat the COVID-19 pandemic at the level of the federal government.

The circular is in line with the directives of the National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority (NCEMA).

It states that the validity of Al Hosn green pass to enter ministries and federal entities has been extended from 14 to 30 days for those fully vaccinated, effective from 29th April, 2022.

This comes in line with a maintained low COVID-19 infection rate, and with an aim to unify directives related to precautionary measures of COVID-19, in coordination with NCEMA and the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP).

The authority called on the ministries and federal authorities to abide by the procedures mentioned in its circular, and use Al Hosn app to ensure that employees and visitors are vaccinated, prior to permitting them entry to the federal government entities.

FAHR also pointed out that these procedures and provisions are subject to modification and change in accordance with the latest requirements of health authorities, and in coordination with the relevant emergency and crisis authorities.

Dubai grants golden residency to long-serving imams, preachers and muezzins

DUBAI, Under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council, has ordered the granting of golden residency to imams of mosques, preachers and muezzins who have completed 20 years of work, in addition to a financial bonus.

The kind gesture, which came ahead of Eid al-Fitr, is in appreciation of their efforts in introducing the teachings of Islam and spreading the values of tolerance, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.

H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed thanked the imams of mosques, preachers and muezzins, emphasising that their pivotal role in society is highly appreciated and respected.

UAE to observe Eid al-Fitr on Monday: Moon-sighting Committee

ABU DHABI, Sunday, the 1st May, will be the 30th day of Ramadan 1443 H, and Monday, the 2nd May, corresponding to 1st Shawwal, will be the first day of Eid al-Fitr, announced the UAE Moon-sighting Committee in a statement issued after its meeting tonight.

Abdullah bin Sultan Al Nuaimi, Minister of Justice, and Chairman of the Committee, said the committee, after exhausting the sharia methods of sighting the crescent and making the necessary contacts with neighbouring countries, could not sight the Shawwal month crescent on Saturday evening, and therefore declares that Sunday, 1st of May, is the last day of Ramadan 1443, and that Monday, the 2nd of May, is the first day of Eid al-Fitr.

The minister and members of the committee extended warm congratulations on the glorious occasion to President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan; His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai; His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, Their Highnesses Supreme Council Members and Rulers of the Emirates and Crown Princes.

They wished the President good health and wellbeing.

They also congratulated the UAE people and Muslims across the world on the auspicious occasion.

Dubai Customs fully prepared to receive increasing passengers and pilgrims during Eid

DUBAI, Dubai Customs has increased the number of customs inspectors at airports to 822 inspectors around the clock during the Eid al-Fitr holiday to facilitate travellers and Umrah pilgrims.

In addition, it has allocated 77 scanners to check bags, including 58 scanners for bigger baggage and 19 scanners to check hand baggage.

“Dubai Customs has developed a work plan for the Eid al-Fitr holiday for receiving Umrah pilgrims returning to the country, where the number of flights and travelers abounds,” said Ibrahim Kamali, Director of Passenger Operations Department.

“In order to provide a distinguished service befitting the emirate’s position as a leading tourist destination, and to enhance security of inspection and control operations, Dubai Customs provides innovative and advanced services, which facilitate passenger flow and customs operations. We have taken all necessary measures at the airport’s three terminals and Al Maktoum International Airport to expedite the process. We have coordinated with Dubai Airports and Emirates to be able to cope with the increasing number of passengers, especially during the festive season,” he added.

Passengers can use iDecare application to declare what they are carrying ahead of their arrival to save more than 30 minutes waiting time. Similarly, artificial intelligence feature is there in place to help identify items that need to be declared through scanning HS Code and identify customs charges. These applications are available on Google Play and Apple store.

According to Dubai Customs statistics, the department has dealt with 6.7 million passengers and around 8.9 pieces of luggage on board 40,615 flights in Q1, 2022. It is keen to enhance the flow of passenger traffic through its advanced services to support Dubai’s tourism plan and consolidate Dubai as the capital of world tourism.

In the same period, Dubai Customs made 313 seizures at the airports; 62 seizures in January, 129 seizures in February and 122 seizures in March (268 criminal seizures and 45 customs seizures).
