UAE Government promotes collaboration with global companies to drive digital transformation, development

DUBAI, The office of the Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications signed with Cisco, global networking, collaboration and cybersecurity leader, a collaboration framework expanding Cisco’s Country Digital Acceleration (CDA) programme in the UAE.

The MoU aims to enhance work models between government entities and private companies (PPT) by designing and launching several key initiatives boosting the UAE’s digital transformation vision and accelerating the development of the nation’s digital economy.

The MoU signing was attended by Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications; and Reem Asaad, Vice President, Middle East and Africa at Cisco. The MoU was signed by Saqr bin Ghalib, Executive Director at the Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications Office, and Abdelilah Nejjari, Managing Director for the Gulf region at Cisco.

Commenting on the collaboration, Al Olama highlighted the UAE government’s keenness on enhancing and promoting PPTs with leading companies around the world, saying, “Driving collaborations with the private sector is one of the key pillars to execute the UAE’s Strategy’s in developing the digital sector, which aims to double the contribution of the digital economy to the country’s non-oil GDP by 2031 and create a proactive leading future.”

He said, “To enhance the UAE’s position as a hub for digital economy in the region and globally, we must focus on key areas. These pillars cover harnessing the power of emerging technologies across key industries, fostering digital skills and talents, and embracing innovative approaches in work models in alignment with the prioritisation of wellbeing in the UAE. Our objective is to boost the UAE’s digital journey, which will be driven in such a way that privacy and security come first.”

Cisco’s CDA programme is aligned with the national agenda of the UAE to transform the country’s economic model towards sustainable growth by transitioning towards a digital economy. It aims at supporting digitisation efforts across various key industry sectors, fostering digital skills, and developing the innovation ecosystem in the country to achieve the UAE centennial 2071 vision of digital transformation.

Asaad, in turn, stated, “The UAE’s visionary leadership is empowering the country to become one of the most prosperous nations by pioneering in the new digital era. With Cisco’s Country Digital Acceleration programme, I am proud that Cisco has the opportunity to support the UAE’s national agenda by unlocking the value of digitisation. Today’s announcement is another key milestone in our journey with the UAE’s government that aims to driving the entire innovation ecosystem to capture the maximum value from digitisation.”

The MoU focuses on digital acceleration for SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises) through cutting-edge technologies that improve competitiveness and efficiency; paving the way for new work environments across key industries such as healthcare, education, and public services, while leveraging the power of hybrid working for improved productivity and experience; and developing skills and providing national training programmes to meet future challenges for a digitally empowered workforce. For that, Cisco will leverage its proven Cisco Networking Academy (NetAcad) programme.

Also, it aims to advance the national digital infrastructure to support foundational services needed for the UAE to accelerate its digital transformation, such as smart cities and cybersecurity roadmaps; Evolved Field Operations by harnessing industry 4.0 technologies to help transform critical national infrastructure by advancing capabilities around network automation, monitoring, control, safety and security; and enhance digital security in the UAE through collaborating with stakeholders at the federal level and across critical national infrastructure.

Cisco’s CDA programme was launched in the UAE in 2018 to accelerate digital transformation, stimulate innovation, and drive digital skills development. Since its inception, more than 15 projects were executed under the program. Key initiatives included the creation of an advanced tele-consultation services platform for a local healthcare provider, an AI-enabled smart classroom project with a leading university, and the first fully functioning physical and digital concept store in the region.

Cisco’s CDA programme is a strategic partnership with governments worldwide to accelerate their national digitalisation agendas and create new value for the country, its businesses, and citizens.

Dubai Customs briefs RAK Customs Department on warehouse system

Dubai Customs received a delegation from RAK Customs Department and briefed them on the customs warehouse system, its working mechanisms and the steps taken to obtain a customs warehouse license.

In the meeting, the two sides discussed a number of relevant topics. Salim Al-Mazmi, senior manager of Customs Tariff Section at the Customs Tariff Department delivered a presentation on Dubai Customs warehouse policies and the electronic procedures followed to obtain customs warehouse licensing.

Bank guarantees submitted to customs to cover any subsequent customs charges and duties have been discussed.

In his presentation, Al-Mazmi also talked about the field visits Dubai Customs makes to the companies in order to verify that the terms and conditions contained in the issued customs policies, including provisions related to public safety, are met.

Another presentation delivered by Yunis Ibrahim, senior manager of customer service highlighted the procedures followed to obtain customs warehouse license and the mechanisms to regulate, issue, and renew customs clearance licenses.

At the end of the meeting, the RAK Customs Department team thanked Dubai Customs for their fruitful cooperation.

Dubai records over AED1.6 billion in realty transactions Wedensday

DUBAI, Dubai real estate market recorded 401 sales transactions worth AED 1.4 billion, in addition to 91 mortgage deals of AED 156.13 million, and 19 gift deals amounting to AED49.85 million on Wednesday, data released by Dubai’s Land Department (DLD) showed.

The sales included 377 villas and apartments worth AED1.14 billion, and 24 land plots worth AED252.94 million, while mortgages included 75 villas and apartments worth AED125.68 million and 16 land plots valued at AED30.45 million, bringing the total realty transactions of today to over AED1.6 billion.

Dubai Industrial City announces opening of Al Damani Electric Vehicle Manufacturing Factory

DUBAI, Dubai Industrial City, a member of TECOM Group PJSC, and M Glory Holding Group announced the opening of Al Damani’s new 45,000-sqft factory, which represents a major milestone in the manufacturing of electric cars to meet a rising demand for green mobility to reduce global carbon emissions. The new plant houses the temporary assembly line, which has a maximum production capacity of 10,000 cars per year.

The factory’s groundbreaking ceremony attended by Dr. Majida Al Azazi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of M Glory Holding Group, and Saud Abu Al Shawareb, Executive Vice President – Industrial Leasing at TECOM Group PJSC, along with other top business leaders and media representatives.

On behalf of Dubai Industrial City, Abu Al Shawareb said, “We are delighted to announce the inauguration of Al Damani Electric Vehicle Manufacturing Factory in Dubai Industrial City.

“By delivering cutting-edge, technologically supported solutions in line with Operation 300bn and driven by our partnership with the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology, the manufacturing sector can play a crucial role in supporting the national net-zero strategy. The opening of M Glory in our community illustrates our dedication to boosting the manufacturing sector and our belief in providing a comprehensive ecosystem that enables regional manufacturers like M Glory to establish businesses and further the ‘Make it in the Emirates’ initiative.”

As a member of the TECOM Group PJSC, Dubai Industrial City is one of the most prominent industrial and logistics hubs in the region, home to international, regional, and local manufacturing giants in a wide range of strategic sectors. It greatly contributes to the achievement of several national strategies, such as Operation 300bn.

Dr. Al Azazi said, “Today, marks the official opening of the Damani Electric Vehicle Manufacturing Factory, the first and only facility of its kind in the UAE to meet international specifications where we will manufacture environmentally-friendly electric cars, contributing to global efforts to reduce carbon emissions and support sustainable development.

“This temporary plant for the production of electric vehicles is located on a million square feet oasis and will be used until the sustainable and comprehensive facility in Dubai Industrial City is completed; it will be operational in the next two years and have a production capacity of 55,000 electric cars yearly.”

She continued that the cars are competitive and durable, offering qualitative addition to the electric car sector.

Dr. Al Azazi explained that the Principles of the 50 announced by the UAE government contributed greatly to the country’s industrial sector, which is experiencing a wonderful revival. Such vision has hastened the sector’s development by driving growth across national industrial institutions and companies, enhancing their operations, and enabling them to expand on a global level, she said, in conclusion.

DEWA encourages customers to use its digital services, presents prizes during GITEX 2022

DUBAI, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is organising several competitions and events while participating in the 42nd GITEX Technology Week.

This is part of its efforts to encourage customers to use its innovative digital channels and services. Customers who activate the automatic payment feature or perform any digital transaction through DEWA’s website or smart app from 1st September to 14th October 2022, can win valuable prizes.

DEWA will also conduct special raffles for visitors to its stand at the Dubai World Trade Centre to select 50 winners. It will also conduct a special draw to select 15 winners from the participants in the customer experience surveys conducted by DEWA last year.

AMF 2022 interactive workshops discuss new trends and tools shaping future of media

DUBAI, The landmark 20th edition of the Arab Media Forum (AMF 2022), organised by the Dubai Press Club from 4th to 5th October, featured a series of interactive workshops on the latest tools that can be leveraged to improve the quality of journalism.

Organised in collaboration with leading global media institutions, the workshops were led by prominent media experts who demonstrated how technologies can be utilised to enhance and verify media content.

Themed ‘The Future of Media’, AMF 2022 drew the participation of over 3,000 regional and international decision makers, thought leaders, journalists, opinion leaders and senior executives in the media industry.

Dr. Maitha Buhumaid, Director of Dubai Press Club, said, “We are pleased to have partnered with some of the world’s leading media organisations to support quality journalism and train journalists and media professionals on the latest technologies in the field. Dubai Press Club’s network of partnerships has enhanced its ability to promote the exchange of knowledge and expertise and broaden the impact of the Arab Media Forum. The five interactive workshops held at this year’s AMF enabled participants to gain new insights and knowledge on the latest tools being adopted in newsrooms globally.”

During a workshop held by CNN Arabia, titled ‘Audience Segmentation and the Creation of Personas for News’, participants learned how analytics and social media insights can be used by journalists to identify the right audience for their stories and products. Led by Samya Ayish, Senior Producer and Digital Media Trainer at CNN Arabia, the session demonstrated the strategy used within the CNN newsroom to build outreach for news. The workshop also reviewed the methodology, strategy and tools used to understand the audience and design the right stories for them.

In another workshop conducted by Agence France-Presse (AFP), titled ‘Digital Verification with AFP Factcheck’, digital verification journalist and AFP trainer Josette Abi Tamer spoke about misinformation and disinformation in the Arab world. The training session highlighted AFP’s efforts to verify the authenticity and accuracy of news and prevent the spread of misinformation worldwide. Participants were able to learn about the fundamentals of fact-checking and get hands-on experience in verifying images, videos, and text.

A workshop by CCTV Middle East, led by Journalist and Python Developer Sun Hu, reviewed the latest technologies in video editing and the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and big data analysis to enhance news operations. Hu demonstrated how advanced technologies are being used to automatically prepare visual news reports for TV and social media platforms without the need for human intervention. The workshop also discussed the latest developments in the field of video editing and highlighted examples of high-quality live broadcasting techniques.

In a workshop titled ‘Reels School’, organised by Meta, participants learned about Meta’s fastest-growing content format Reels, which is available on both Instagram and Facebook. Led by Joana Jamil, Strategic Partner Manager, Established Creators at Meta, ‘Reels School’ provided a deep dive into the Reels format and how participants can create engaging Reels. It also shared creative tips and tricks on how media professionals and organisations can optimise their Reels strategy.

In another training session organised by Meta, Samer Chehab, Strategic Partner Manager, Media at Meta, led a session titled ‘Welcome to the Future of Entertainment’. The session showcased how Meta is revolutionising the way people connect and engage with media companies. The training session demonstrated how Meta is providing its media partners with solutions to better grow their business and community and accelerate their journey to the Metaverse.
