The representative of the United Nations Development Program in Libya briefs Al-Koni on his work in the south.

The Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program in Libya, “Marc-Andre Franche”, today, Tuesday, briefed the Deputy in the Presidential Council, Musa Al-Koni, about the work programs that have been accomplished in the regions of the south over the past years, on the occasion of the end of his work in Libya.

According to the media office of the Presidential Council, the UN official praised the support he received from the Council to carry out the tasks entrusted to him in Libya.

In turn, Al-Koni thanked the representative of the United Nations Program for the efforts he made to implement its programs in the southern regions, during his tenure in Libya, wishing him success in the tasks that will be assigned to him in the future, according to the media office.

Zuwara Security Directorate raids a house used by a group of human smugglers to detain migrants.

The Search, Investigation and Arrest Committee of the Zuwara Security Directorate raided a house used by a group of human smugglers to detain a number of immigrants.

The Directorate said in a statement on its official Facebook page that information had been received indicating that a group of human smugglers had detained a number of immigrants inside a house in the city. The necessary measures were immediately taken and the site investigated.

The Directorate confirmed that the house intended to accommodate immigrants was raided by the Directorate’s Search, Investigation and Arrest Committee and members of the police stations after obtaining permission from the Public Prosecution Office, where more than forty immigrants of Arab and African nationalities were seized.

A number of suspects were also arrested for bringing them and facilitating their emigration in return for sums of money, according to the directorate’s statement.

FM receives phone call from Georgian counterpart

Amman, June 6 (Petra)- Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, on Tuesday received a phone call from Georgia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ilia Darchiashvili. The covered bilateral relations and steps taken by countries to develop them in various fields. Safadi and Darchiashvili highlighted several regional and international issues of common concern, and affirmed the two countries’ commitment to enhance bilateral cooperation in economic, tourism, combating terrorism, and efforts to enhance regional stability. The two ministers agreed to continue engaging in bilateral work and coordination and within international institutions.

UNICEF warns of not providing water to the children of Libya in the near future.

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) warned against not providing water to Libyan children in the near future.

In a statement on the occasion of World Environment Day, the organization expressed its concern about the lack of water for the children of Libya in the near future, as Libya ranks sixth in the world in terms of water scarcity.

The organization called for the need to develop a comprehensive water strategy to address its scarcity, invest in renewable solutions, and cooperate with youth to accelerate the pace of climate action.

UNICEF also affirmed that it and its partners stand by Libya and the youth in this journey.

JTB, RJ hold tourist promotional ceremony in Tunis

Tunis, June 6 (Petra)- The Jordan Tourism Board (JTB) and the Royal Jordanian Airlines (RJ) organized a promotional ceremony in Tunis for the Jordan Destination. In the ceremony, attended by travel and tourism agents, journalists and social media influencers, Jordan Ambassador to Tunisia, Maher Tarawneh lauded the distinguished relations between Jordan and Tunisia at various levels, especially in tourism, which recently witnessed the exchange of visits between travel and tourism agents in the two countries. He pointed out to the positive indicators of the tourism and travel agencies competitiveness in the Kingdom, and its qualitative leap compared to last year, recording 19 points, as Jordan ranked 64th globally in the travel and tourism index. He showcased the positive indicators of smart tourism in Jordan as well as the positive indicators of tourism development, as tourism income increased by 88 per cent during the first quarter of this year, recording an increase of 1.4 million tourists during the same period. Tarawneh called on tourism and travel agents in Tunisia to visit Jordan and learn about its rich tourism products and historical and archaeological sites. For his part, Director of the Tunisia and Morocco region at RJ, Ahmed Akour, spoke about RJ’s ambitious 5-yerar plan, aimed at doubling the fleet to 44 aircrafts, the first batch of which will be handed over this year. Akour added that the plan also aims to double international destinations to more than 60 globally. He indicated that RJ achieved, on the Amman-Tunisia line only, a growth in PAX traffic by 51 per cent during the first third of 2023, and a growth in revenues by 61 per cent. JTB representative, Khaled Al-Kilani, in turn, said that JTB’s indicators are good, given that it started operating in the Tunisian market in 2017, and that the Covid-19 pandemic had disrupted activity during the past two years.

The head of the government of national unity inaugurates the new headquarters of the Libyan Football Association.

The President of the Government of National Unity, “Abdul Hamid Al-Dabaiba,” today, Tuesday, inaugurated the new headquarters of the Libyan Football Association, accompanied by the Ministers of Sports and State for Cabinet Affairs, where he was received by the President of the Libyan Federation, members of the Management Committee, and a number of Premier League club presidents.

After an inspection tour of the components of the building, Al-Dabaiba held a meeting with the heads of the Premier League clubs running for the six-party league, in the presence of members of the Federation Management Committee, to find out the difficulties facing the establishment of the league in good conditions.

During the opening of the meeting, the President of the Federation praised the efforts of the Ministry of Sports and the International Federation of Football Associations to have the Libyan Federation an official headquarters after 61 years.

The Minister of Sports also praised the Prime Minister’s efforts to support clubs at all levels in sports, who contributed to the conduct of all sports competitions without interruption or problems.

Al-Dabaiba affirmed his support for Libyan sport in all its aspects, despite all the difficulties facing the administrative and technical components of the sports family.

The Competitions Committee presented the calendar of the six-a-side league, which the Football Association intends to hold in Tunisia.

At the end of the meeting, Al-Dabaiba stressed the need to complete the stadiums before the start of the next season, not to hold local matches abroad, and to organize promotion and relegation for first and second division clubs.
