Prince Mired bin Ra’ad, the Secretary-General of the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (HCD), has held a meeting with Maria Hadjitheodosiou, the Ambassador of the European Union to Jordan, to discuss social protection for people with disabilities. During the meeting, Prince Mired expressed HCD’s profound gratitude for the invaluable support provided by the European Union in bolstering and fortifying the social protection framework for individuals with disabilities in the Kingdom. He underscored that the issue of social protection for persons with disabilities is of paramount importance to the HCD, as it directly impacts the promotion of their independent living through the development of inclusive day services. Furthermore, Prince Mired commended Ambassador Hadjitheodosiou for her instrumental efforts in supporting the joint institutional framework governing the social protection sector. He also highlighted the pivotal role played by the Ministry of Social Development in coordinating the implementation of the National Social Protection Strategy, and its contributions to supporting healthcare insurance and economic empowerment for beneficiaries of the National Aid Fund, in collaboration with the Ministries of Health and Labor. He further recognized the ministry’s commitment to facilitating the transition from a residential care system to an integrated day services model for individuals with disabilities. In response, Ambassador Hadjitheodosiou expressed her admiration for the Council’s key role in providing technical support to various institutions, enabling them to effectively fulfill their responsibilities in the field of disability. She also commended the Council’s tireless efforts in raising awareness about the rights of persons with disabilities and promoting their seamless integration into society. Dubai Customs assists Canadian authorities in seizing over 547 kilograms of narcotics

DUBAI, 4th June, 2023 (WAM) — Dubai Customs has successfully aided Canadian authorities in seizing over 547 kilograms of narcotics discovered in shipping containers originating from an Asian country and destined for Canada. Dubai Customs’ sophisticated systems for tracking suspicious shipments and exchanging vital information with customs authorities across the globe have garnered widespread recognition. Their relentless dedication to combatting cross-border crimes and preventing the illicit trafficking of prohibited substances, both regionally and internationally, serves to safeguard communities from the devastating consequences of drug abuse. Ministry of Economy raises awareness on importance of reporting suspicious transactions in gold and precious stone sector

ABU DHABI, 4th June, 2023 (WAM) — The Ministry of Economy, represented by the Department of Anti-Money Laundering, organised two workshops, in Arabic and English, to promote the awareness of traders and business owners in the gold and precious stones sector on the reporting of suspicious transactions to ensure the quality of these products when presented to the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU). This contributes to enhancing the competitiveness of the gold sector and its further development in line with international best practices. The workshops addressed specific topics, such as the types of suspicious transaction reports (STR), requirements for reporting, and the warning signs that must be taken into consideration while submitting the reports through the FIU’s reporting system. Abdullah Sultan Al Fan Al Shamsi, Assistant Under-Secretary for the Monitoring and Follow-Up Sector at the Ministry of Economy, said, “The Ministry, in collaboration with its government and private sector partners, is working diligently and continuously to support the development of an integrated gold trade ecosystem in the country. The hosting of the awareness workshops for traders and enterprises in the gold and precious stones sector forms part of the Ministry’s efforts to ensure the highest levels of compliance in this vital sector. It will help solidify the UAE’s position as a key player in the supply chains and global gold trade.” The Ministry’s team highlighted the risks associated with gold trade and the means to avoid them, as well as the significance of gold sector companies’ full compliance with the AML/CFT national legislation. It is key to meeting the requirements issued by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF). The gold, gemstones, and precious metals sector belongs to the Designated Non-Financial Businesses and Professions (DNFBP), supervised by the Ministry of Economy at the national and free zones levels, to combat money laundering and terrorism financing. The Ministry has developed a solid regulatory framework and offers a safe environment for the DNFBP sector to operate in line with international best practices. These efforts have led to the establishment of an attractive climate for business and investment in various sectors, thus building a future economic model based on flexibility and sustainability.

Magnitude 6 earthquake jolts Eastern Indonesia
