Sultan bin Ahmed crowns Japanese team with first Asian Padel Cup


H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, crowned on Sunday evening, the Japanese team with the first edition of the Asian Padel Champions Cup, which was hosted by the University of Sharjah.

Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed handed the Japanese team players Leon Taira and Shungo Kusakabe the championship cup after their victory over their Australian counterpart by three games to one, congratulating the players on this victory and hailing the great level of performance they presented during the match. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed also honoured the Australian team players Timothy Brown and Marius Zilba with the second place cup, praising their efforts during the match.

The Deputy Ruler of Sharjah watched the final match of the tournament, which was characterised by competitiveness and enthusiasm, in which the players performed at high levels that reflected the strength of the competition from its start until the final confrontation.

Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed also honoured the top three team
s, champions of the amateur category, the sponsors and supporters of the tournament, and the referees of the final match, with commemorative shields, taking pictures with them, praising the organising committee of the tournament and wishing them success.

The tournament witnessed the participation of 30 players representing 10 Asian countries, namely the UAE, Qatar, Iraq, Japan, Iran and China, in addition to Indonesia, the Sultanate of Oman, Jordan and the Philippines.

Attending the final match and coronation alongside Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed were Jun Imanishi Consul General of Japan in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, Dr. Humaid Majoul Al Nuaimi, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, a number of representatives of sponsoring companies, and a large gathering of padel fans and enthusiasts.

Ahmed bin Mohammed honours UAE’s champion athletes who excelled in Asian Games and Asian Para Games


H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai and President of the UAE National Olympic Committee (NOC), today honoured UAE’s champion athletes who secured 31 medals in the Asian Games and Asian Para Games, both of which concluded last month in Hangzhou, China.

The ceremony, organised by the NOC, took place at Emirates Towers in Dubai.

Commenting on the occasion, Sheikh Ahmed highlighted the UAE’s commitment to developing the Olympic movement in line with the leadership’s vision of creating a nurturing environment that fosters its growth and cultivates national talent. This dedication reinforces the UAE’s prominent position on the global sporting map, he noted.

Sheikh Ahmed said, ‘The noteworthy accomplishments of UAE athletes in both continental and global competitions adds to the country’s successes in various fields. The impressive feats of our athletes in the Asian Games will be enduringly etched in our collective memory, embodying a tale of success marked by unwav
ering determination and a steadfast commitment to attaining excellence and being recognised on the international stage.”

Sheikh Ahmed also emphasised that the accomplishments of the UAE’s champions in the fourth edition of the Asian Para Games have played a significant role in enhancing the sporting landscape in the country and the overall standards of sports. ‘Securing 11 diverse medals reaffirms that willpower and dedication are inherent qualities of our nation’s athletes, irrespective of the level of competition,’ he added.

Addressing the Emirati champions, Sheikh Ahmed said, ‘Through your determination, efforts and commitment to raising the UAE’s flag in these two major events, we have accomplished the most outstanding participation for the country in the Asian Games since 1978. We ranked first among Arab countries and 14th overall in the participating countries’ ranking table in the fourth edition of the Asian Para Games. Our commitment to striving for higher levels of excellence remains unwavering, an
d we aim to secure new titles in the upcoming championships.’

The ceremony was attended by Vice Presidents of the NOC Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi and Dr. Ahmed Belhoul Al Falasi, as well as Secretary-General of the NOC Fares Al Mutawa.

During the event, Sheikh Ahmed also honoured the former members of the Executive Office of the National Olympic Committee, recognising their prominent role and exceptional contributions in advancing the national Olympic movement. He acknowledged their commitment to providing ambitious proposals and visions during their tenure with the Committee.

Fares Al Mutawa conveyed his gratitude to Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed for honouring the athletes and motivating them to maintain their exceptional levels of performance. He also underscored the significance of such recognition for every dedicated athlete who has strived and worked tirelessly to earn well-deserved acknowledgment.

The UAE participated in the 19th edition of the Asian Games held in Hangzhou, China, from 23 Septemb
er to 8 October. The event featured 12,000 athletes from 45 Asian countries. The UAE took part in 20 individual and team sports, with a total of 140 athletes, including 102 male and 38 female athletes, who secured 20 medals in various categories, including five gold, five silver and 10 bronze.

In the fourth edition of the Asian Para Games in Hangzhou, China, from 22 October to 28 October, the UAE was represented by 41 athletes across eight sports: athletics, powerlifting, archery, cycling, shooting, judo, bocce and badminton. The UAE delegation concluded its participation by securing a total of 11 medals, including four gold, four silver and three bronze.

UAE National Arabian Horse Championship to begin tomorrow in Abu Dhabi


Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Presidential Court, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Arabian Horse Society (EAHS), the EAHS will host the UAE National Arabian Horse Championship tomorrow on Tuesday.

The event will start at 10:00 at the Grand Hall of the Boudheib Equestrian Academy in Al Khatm, Abu Dhabi, with the participation of 199 pure-bred Arabian horses.

The activities of the event’s first day will begin with competitions for yearling fillies divided into sections ‘A’ and ‘B,’ followed by two and three-year-old fillies.

Afterwards, mares aged four to six years will compete, followed by mares aged seven years and above, and then by male horses in the yearling colts category divided into sections ‘A’ and ‘B.’

The final day of the championship, scheduled for Wednesday, will feature two-year-old colts, three-year-old colts, and stallions aged four to six years. The qualifying competiti
ons will conclude with stallions aged seven years and above.

The judging criteria for the championship will rely on five fundamental and objective evaluation systems, encompassing Arabian identity, head and neck, body, legs, and movement.

Horses securing the first and second positions in all age categories will qualify to compete for awards for yearling fillies and colts, two and three-year-old fillies and colts, mares, and stallions, contending for the titles of gold, silver, and bronze champions.

Yas Marina Circuit prepares to host milestone 15th edition of #ABUDHABIGP


With the milestone 15th edition of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix season finale just around the corner, Yas Marina Circuit is buzzing with activity as the world-famous F1 landmark prepares to welcome more than a hundred thousand motor sports fans across the four-day event from 23rd to 26th November.

To close out the 2023 calendar, hundreds of the 10 team’s officials along with 5 A-list musical artists VIP guests, celebrities, international media and, of course, the world’s best drivers will all be in attendance.

To ensure the circuit looks its best for the tens of thousands of fans and an estimated global TV audience of more than 100 million, a dedicated team of cleaning and maintenance specialists, painters, gardeners and skilled technical experts have been in action around the clock sprucing up the 5.28km track, Grandstands, the fan zones and hospitality spaces, and landscaped areas.

Before this year’s four-day weekend on Yas Island, a team of cleaners will be given the essential task of removing dust from ex
isting and impressive new Grandstands. Equipped with high-pressure hoses, the team will set about tackling the Circuit’s 228 canopies over a mammoth 6,920 hours of non-stop cleaning work in order have the venue looking spick and span and ready to welcome spectators.

Newly installed this year, specialists have been hard at work setting up the circuit’s state-of-the-art LED lighting system, which will not only be 34 per cent more efficient, but reduce year-round electricity use by 24 per cent and save 30 per cent of carbon emissions annually across Yas Marina Circuit’s operations.

Yas Marina Circuit’s 88.4 acres of landscaped areas have been given extra care and attention as gardeners pruned and planted 2.52 acres of seasonal flowers and petunias, as well as more than 1,750 different kinds of foliage along with 886 varieties of Palms and 529 potted plants to bring a splash of natural colour and the wonderful, scented aroma of flowers to the venue.

In the pit lane and paddocks, teams of motor racing experts a
nd logistics specialists manage the arrival of everything required for the FIA Formula 1 race, FIA F2 Championship races and the non-championship F4UAE sessions.

Squads of highly skilled technicians and safety experts will inspect every inch of the Circuit as part of intensive procedures to ensure the safety of the drivers, teams and the spectators watching the F1® action unfold.

With the huge to-do list slowly being completed job by job, the time arrives for the 26 F1, F2 and F4 UAE race teams to land in Abu Dhabi. The circuit’s logistics team have been planning and working constantly to prepare 227 rooms with more than 3,000 pieces of furniture, fittings or equipment, as well as inspected 65 forklift trucks and programmed more than 200 access cards ahead of the teams’ arrival from the season’s penultimate race in Las Vegas.

After 23 rounds of racing, the 2023 F1 season finale promises another incredible fan experience across the whole of Yas Island and Abu Dhabi.

Young female athletes shine at Abu Dhabi World Youth Jiu-Jitsu Championship

ABU DHABI, 4th November, 2023 (WAM) — Al Jazira Jiu-Jitsu Club continued to assert its dominance on the second day of the Abu Dhabi World Youth Jiu-Jitsu Championship, a part of the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship (ADWPJJC), taking place at the Mubadala Arena. The competitions on Saturday showcased the exceptional strength and skill of women’s jiu-jitsu in the Emirates and abroad. In an exhilarating day of action, which saw hundreds of girls aged 10-17 competing across various age, weight, and belt categories, Al Jazira Jiu-Jitsu Club emerged victorious and grabbed the first place, with Kazakhstan National Team securing the second position, and Baniyas Jiu-Jitsu Club finishing third. Saudi Weightlifting Team Wins Title of Arab Juniors Championship

Cairo, The Saudi junior team for weightlifting has won the title of the Arab Weightlifting Championship, which concluded on Tuesday in Cairo with the participation of over 230 athletes from 12 Arab countries.

The Saudi men’s teams for weightlifting ranked second, while the Saudi teams for women in all ages ranked third.

On the sidelines of the championship, the meeting of the Arab Weightlifting Federation (AWF) executive board and general assembly was held in the presence of President of the Saudi Weightlifting Federation and First Vice President of AWF Mohamed Ahmad Al-Harbi.
