UAE receives Arab support for candidacy for membership in Executive Office of General Assembly of UN-Habitat 2023

CAIRO, On behalf of Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, Mohammed Al Mansouri, Director of the Sheikh Zayed Housing Programme, headed an Emirati delegation participating in the 39th Council of Arab Ministers of Housing and Construction held in Egypt, under the presidency of Dr. Assem El Gazzar, Egyptian Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities.

The event was attended by Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the Arab League, and Arab ministers of housing and construction, as well as Ibrahim Mohammed Al Hosani, Director of the Sharjah Housing Programme, and several housing officials in the country.

During the event, the UAE received Arab support for its candidacy for membership in the Executive Office of the General Assembly of UN-Habitat 2023 and announced the completion of its regional plan to reduce carbon emissions and implement the objectives of the Paris Agreement by 2050.

The event also showcased several successful Arab housing projects, as part of an exhibition held on its sidelines.

In his statement to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), Al Mansouri highlighted the importance of strengthening the cooperation between Arab countries in housing and urban development to address current and future challenges.

He also stressed that housing and urban development are two issues of high priority for the UAE’s leadership, headed by President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and Their Highnesses Supreme Council Members and Rulers of the Emirates.

As part of the efforts of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, represented by the Sheikh Zayed Housing Programme, to strengthen the government housing sector, and in line with the directives of the UAE’s leadership, the programme issued 2,983 housing assistance decisions since the last May, with a total value of AED2.374 billion. This brought the percentage of adherence to its announced plan to more than 99 percent, while the total number of government housing decisions in the current year amounted to 565, with a value of AED452 million.

The total number of decisions issued by the programme in 2022 amounted to 3,571, valued at AED2.842 billion.
