OPEC daily basket price stood at $67.47 a barrel Wednesday

VIENNA, The price of OPEC basket of thirteen crudes stood at $67.47 a barrel on Wednesday, 26th May, compared with $67.41 the previous day, according to OPEC Secretariat calculations.

The OPEC Reference Basket of Crudes (ORB) is made up of the following: Saharan Blend (Algeria), Girassol (Angola), Djeno (Congo), Zafiro (Equatorial Guinea), Rabi Light (Gabon), Iran Heavy (Iran), Basra Light (Iraq), Kuwait Export (Kuwait), Es Sider (Libya), Bonny Light (Nigeria), Arab Light (Saudi Arabia), Murban (UAE) and Merey (Venezuela).

Tawam Hospital successfully treats 11-year-old girl with acute lymphoblastic leukemia

AL AIN, Tawam Hospital, part of Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA), has successfully treated an 11-year-old girl named Mayar, who was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, a type of blood and bone marrow cancer.

Dr. Anwar Salam, Group Chief Medical Officer, SEHA, said, “As part of our commitment at SEHA to provide the community with world-class care, the oncology centre at Tawam Hospital is led by an integrated multidisciplinary team of consultant doctors and qualified specialists, and the latest technologies to appropriately diagnose and provide treatment. The latest success story of treating an 11-year-old with acute lymphoblastic leukemia serves as testament to the quality of expertise and services available within the network that serves the wider UAE community.”

Mayar visited Tawam Hospital in April 2017, where she was diagnosed, and soon after started chemotherapy, which lasted for approximately 2 years. The young girl was then diagnosed with relapse acute lymphoblastic leukemia, but even after treatment, her tests revealed the continuation of more than 15 percent abnormal cells.

The doctors started Mayar on Blinatumomab, an injection used to treat B-cell precursor acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) in remission with minimal residual disease (MRD), to prepare her for a bone marrow transplant, until there were no remaining abnormal cells nor cancer cells. She then travelled to Jordan to receive the transplant.

Mayar’s father said, “A cancer diagnosis is always feared, especially in children. More than 85 percent of children with acute lymphoblastic get cured with current treatment modalities – this helped us stay positive throughout the process. Undergoing treatment is a challenging phase as your child faces difficulties. My daughter fought and has won, she now dreams to become a doctor to help others like her.”

AstraZeneca commends UAE’s COVID-19 vaccination strategy

DUBAI, Biopharmaceuticals company, AstraZeneca, commended the UAE’s successful strategy of providing COVID-19 vaccines, and carrying out vaccination and large-scale testing campaigns.

Qutaiba Al Manasseer, Government Affairs Director, Middle East and Africa at AstraZeneca, which developed a COVID-19 vaccine in partnership with Oxford University, stated that the efforts of Middle Eastern countries to promptly make vaccines available have succeeded, noting that health authorities in the region have developed flexible systems and strategies to ensure the rapid and organised rollout of the vaccination campaign.

The UAE ranked among the fastest countries globally in terms of rolling out its vaccination programme, relying on the intensive efforts of its health authorities in administering vaccines and enhancing public confidence in its efficacy, he added.

Al Manasseer stressed that, since the start of the pandemic, AstraZeneca has focused on partnering with scientists, governments, multilateral organisations and manufacturers to establish agreements to develop and supply its vaccine, and help fight the pandemic.

Abdullah bin Zayed, Canadian counterpart discuss bilateral relations, regional issues

ABU DHABI, H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, discussed with Canadian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Marc Garneau, relations and cooperation between the UAE and Canada and ways to enhance them in the best interests of the two countries and peoples.

During the meeting, held via video conferencing, the two ministers reviewed the situation in the Middle East and the importance of boosting security and stability in the region. They also tackled several regional and global issues of mutual interest.

Sheikh Abdullah and Garneau reviewed the efforts of both countries in the fight against COVID-19 and the need to develop international collective action to ensure the delivery of the vaccine for the virus to all countries.

The two sides discussed the UAE’s hosting of the Expo 2020 Dubai, which will start in October 2021, and Canada’s participation in it.

Sheikh Abdullah emphasised the strong bilateral ties between the UAE and Canada and keenness on developing them in all domains.

Fahad Saeed Mohammed Al Raqbani, UAE Ambassador to Canada, and Marcy Grossman, Ambassador of Canada to the UAE, attended the meeting.

UAE’s investment climate continues to attract investors despite pandemic: CEO of RAQ Contracting

DUBAI, Rami Al Qaisi, CEO of RAQ Contracting, stated that the UAE’s investment and legislative environments are highly attractive to investors, who continue to make investments due to the many facilities that the UAE provides to investors, contractors and employers, as well as its advanced infrastructure.

The UAE’s flexible laws, which guarantee justice for all, encouraged me to choose to do business in the UAE rather than any other country, Al Qaisi told Emirates News Agency in an exclusive interview.

He highlighted Dubai’s success in hosting and organising major events and exhibitions, most notably Expo 2020 Dubai, which will start in October 2021, adding that the success seen across the UAE’s investment environment has encouraged investors to work, invest, and even live in the country.

“As investors, we are aware of all the changes taking place in the region and the world that may affect our businesses. The UAE is known for its strong and resilient economy, which was able to navigate the COVID-19 fallout, encouraging foreign investors and companies to open new branches in the UAE,” he added.

He also pointed out that the increased business activity of foreign investors and companies is directly linked to the continued and strong activity seen in UAE markets, and the UAE’s launch of many initiatives and incentives in various sectors, further encouraging foreign investors.

Al Qaisi expressed his optimism about the future of investment in the UAE. “We remain optimistic about the UAE’s future as there are several positive prospects in terms of living and doing business in the UAE. There are still good investment opportunities in 2021, which has been an extraordinary year with the UAE celebrating its golden jubilee and launching Expo 2020 Dubai.”

Al Qaisi noted that his UAE Golden Residency entitles him to many benefits, and expressed his gratitude to the UAE’s leadership for the endless support and assurances provided to investors.
