Estedad, MBRU to strengthen medical research skills of 20 high school students

DUBAI, Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences (MBRU) has announced its participation in The National Ambassadors Programme – Estedad, a capacity-building initiative in collaboration with the Ministry of Education. Aligning with its goal of empowering scientific research and continuous innovation, MBRU will take part in the programme’s research track, according to an MBRU press release on Sunday.

MBRU’s collaboration with Estedad provides students with the scientific research methodology concepts, skills, and practical experience through undertaking a research project, allowing them to train in some of the skills needed to apply at their university studies.

The university, through this first of a kind programme in the UAE, introduced high school students to a diverse range of learning experiences in medicine and health sciences across three elements of an integrated academic health system: education, research, and clinical practice.

This two-week programme, which relies on experiential virtual learning, began on 25th July until 5th August, and was free of charge for participants. With the programme open to 20 high school students, participants were inspired to explore different career paths in the field of medicine and health sciences.

Commenting on MBRU being part of this National Programme, Dr. Laila Alsuwaidi, Associate Dean – Student Happiness and Wellbeing, Assistant Professor – Molecular Hematology at MBRU’s College of Medicine, said, “Students are highly encouraged to realise the importance of scientific research and its impact on different life’s aspects. Our collaboration with Estedad- National Ambassadors’ Programme will provide students with scientific tools they may require to identify challenges, collect and analyse relevant data, leading them to evaluate the findings and ultimately address the challenges.

“This process will allow them to delve into different research issues and make use of data and information they come across through their academic and personal lives.”

The Estedad programme was launched in June 2020 and aims to provide high school students with the essential skills to grow in various fields including research, soft skills, entrepreneurship, leadership, media, and diplomatic skills. Moreover, it provides students with the knowledge and tools required to apply to universities.

Tasjeel opens new vehicle testing centre in Al Rahmania Mall, Sharjah

DUBAI, Tasjeel, the UAE’s prominent vehicle testing and registration centre, has opened a testing centre at the Al Rahmania Mall, further expanding its footprint in Sharjah.

Spanning over 175 sqm and equipped to serve more than 100 vehicles daily, the new Tasjeel centre will offer automotive services to residents of Al Rahmania and nearby areas, according to a press release on Sunday.

“The opening of our first facility at a mall in Sharjah is a testament to our commitment to strengthen our presence in the emirate and to bring our services closer to customers. Offering high-quality testing and registration services is critical to ensuring road safety, as well as the well-being of our customers,” said Saif Humaid Al Falasi, Group CEO of ENOC.

In addition to testing and registration services offered at its centres, Tasjeel sites also distribute number plates, international driving licences, chassis checking measurement for light vehicles, battery tests and on-board diagnostic test, among others.

ENOC and Dubai Police partnered in 1999 to set up Tasjeel to offer fast and convenient vehicle testing services in the Emirate. In 2006, Tasjeel began vehicle testing and registration services for Sharjah Police, becoming the official testing and registration provider in the Emirate.

Currently, Tasjeel owns and operates 24 sites in Dubai, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, Khorfakkan, Al Dhaid, Hatta and Kalba – as well as three mobile units. To date, Tasjeel has tested over 18 million vehicles in its 91 testing bays in the country.

DEWA’s Innovation Centre organises workshop for over 3,000 students

DUBAI, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA)’s Innovation Centre has organised a virtual workshop in Arabic and English on the best practices in protecting the environment and natural resources.

The workshop presented the Innovation Centre’s role at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, to promote clean technologies and provide sustainable and clean energy. Some 3,488 students participated in the workshop, representing public and private schools, as well as People of Determination centres in the UAE.

“The Centre invests in youth and their interest in clean energy, to achieve the objectives of sustainable development and use research and the latest innovative technologies to achieve these directives. The Centre is an educational platform that hosts events, conferences, seminars and workshops. It also builds strong collaboration with schools, universities, start-ups, local and global organisations in innovation, knowledge exchanges and organising exhibitions,” said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA.

The workshop is part of the Centre’s efforts to expand collaboration with schools and universities to raise the next generation of sustainability leaders and innovators. It also strengthens their skills and capabilities in clean energy technology through exchanging knowledge and experiences. The workshop provides a unique opportunity to discover the latest innovations in clean technologies, while nurturing Emirati talents.
