Road deaths drop by 38% in Sharjah in 7 months

SHARJAH, Traffic statistics issued by the Traffic and Patrol Department of Sharjah Police revealed that the number of traffic deaths in Sharjah fell by 38 percent during the first seven months of 2021, compared to the same period last year.

Lt. Col. Mohammed Allay Al Naqbi, Director of the Traffic and Patrol Department of Sharjah Police, confirmed that Sharjah Police is keen to implement the strategic objective of the Ministry of Interior aimed at making roads safer, and reducing traffic accidents and deaths.

He explained that Sharjah Police is keen to identify the main causes of traffic accidents and find appropriate and quick solutions. The decrease in the number of deaths was due to the efforts of the Traffic and Patrol Department that conducted awareness programmes for the society, and disseminated the traffic culture among different members of the public, in addition to disseminating the role played by the media in raising traffic awareness, he added.

Lt. Col. Al Naqbi stated that Sharjah Police is working under the strategic plan of the Ministry of Interior aimed at enhancing traffic awareness among all members of society. The ministry’s most important goal is promoting traffic culture, to reach a safe society free of traffic accidents, he said in conclusion.

ZHO, Abu Dhabi National Hotels Compass sign MoU to train People of Determination in culinary arts

ABU DHABI, To promote effective strategic partnerships that support services for the people of determination, Zayed Higher Organisation for People of Determination (ZHO) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Abu Dhabi National Hotels Compass (ADNH Compass), to provide culinary arts training for people of determination and their parents.

This includes the establishment of a culinary team of experts to develop a shared workload and shared goals between the two parties, as well as media cooperation under the media policies of each party.

The memorandum was signed by Abdullah Abdul-Ali Al-Humaidan, Secretary-General of ZHO, and by Peter Nichols, Chief Operating Officer of ADNH Compass.

Under the terms of the MoU, ZHO will identify people of determination and their parents and will provide the other party with all relevant data. The organisation will also ensure that all necessary learning supports are in place for trainees and will follow up on training processes. AD Compass will train participants in culinary arts in designated and affiliated training facilities as mutually agreed. Fifty individuals will be trained. The course content is provided through practical training courses and methodologies and all trainees will receive a globally approved diploma from ADNH Compass Corporate Executive Chef Richard Green who is a World Association of Chefs Societies (WACS) Certified Master Chef.

Welcoming the signing of the MoU, Al-Humaidan said that ZHO strives to qualify its students for the labour market, by enrolling them and their families in a wide range of fields, including the culinary arts, as part of the organisation’s efforts to empower people of determination and promote their social inclusion, through the establishment of cooperative partnerships and the signing of MoUs to reflect these goals.

Nichols, commented, “The hospitality and catering industry is starting to reopen, and we are delighted to be in a position to support the development of local future talent in the UAE. This programme will equip the participants with a passion for culinary arts with skills to embark on an exciting career path. Our goal is to help programme participants gain hands-on experience and confidence in their abilities. Catering is relatively barrierless to enter which helps create equality. All it takes is a combination of genuine commitment and natural talent.”

Mohamed bin Zayed receives phone call from Greek PM

ABU DHABI, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, received today a telephone call from Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Prime Minister of Greece, during which the latter expressed Athens’ thanks to the UAE for providing assistance to people affected by the wildfires and necessary materials that contributed to fighting the fires raging in several regions in Greece.

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed affirmed the UAE’s solidarity with Greece in confronting these difficult circumstances.

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed and Prime Minister Mitsotakis also discussed an array of issues of mutual concern and exchanged views on them.

OPEC daily basket price stood at $71.32 a barrel Thursday

VIENNA, The price of OPEC basket of thirteen crudes stood at $71.32 a barrel on Thursday, compared with $70.52 the previous day, according to OPEC Secretariat calculations.

The OPEC Reference Basket of Crudes (ORB) is made up of the following: Saharan Blend (Algeria), Girassol (Angola), Djeno (Congo), Zafiro (Equatorial Guinea), Rabi Light (Gabon), Iran Heavy (Islamic Republic of Iran), Basra Light (Iraq), Kuwait Export (Kuwait), Es Sider (Libya), Bonny Light (Nigeria), Arab Light (Saudi Arabia), Murban (UAE) and Merey (Venezuela).
