BEIJING, Aug. 24, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — 2021 is a crucial year for advancing climate action. To mobilize, showcase, and maximize young people’s strength in tackling climate change, the Global Alliance of Universities on Climate (GAUC) announces the ClimateX Summit – a global initiative led by GAUC to engage youth around the world.

GAUC to hold global youth summit on a zero carbon future

ClimateX aims to help move the world towards a Net-Zero Carbon Future. The summit will be held from October 25 to 29, building on the momentum of global climate events scheduled for this fall, including the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26).

ClimateX will focus on climate and four areas: Nature & Biodiversity, Food & Health, Energy, and Transportation, through three distinct tracks: Academic, Action and Voices.

GAUC  was initiated in January 2019, when eight universities made a joint statement at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos.

Currently, GAUC has 15 member universities and the mission of the Global Alliance of Universities on Climate is to advance climate change solutions through research, education, and public outreach, and to partner with industry, non-profit and government organizations to promote rapid implementation from a local to a global scale.

GAUC will pursue this mission by promoting exchange and cooperation among member universities and providing leadership in global higher education efforts to address climate change.

The high-level forum, held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, is organised in partnership with Expo 2020 Dubai.

The Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Dubai Chamber) has announced the agenda for the Global Business Forum (GBF) Africa 2021 – the first of its programme of activities that it is running as the Official Business Integration Partner of Expo 2020 Dubai.

Bearing the theme Transformation Through Trade, GBF Africa 2021 will turn its attention to exploring an array of challenges and opportunities across the continent that have emerged in the wake of COVID-19 and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) while putting the spotlight on Dubai as a preferred gateway connecting African countries to promising markets in various regions of the world.

Day one of GBF Africa 2021 commences with sessions tackling trends and issues reshaping African economies at the moment, including the role of regional and international partnerships such as the AfCFTA, in reshaping the trade and investment landscapes and driving sustainable growth, capital as a factor driving innovation, and prospects for expanding UAE-Africa economic cooperation.

On the second day of the forum, conversations will shift to Dubai as a model for logistics, infrastructure development and smart city solutions that can be replicated in African markets, in addition to the growing momentum behind African entrepreneurs, smart agriculture and the digital economy initiatives.

“Rapid changes have transformed the trade dynamics in Africa and around the world over the last year and a half, creating new prospects for UAE companies can benefit from as they look to tap into new high-potential markets,” said Hamad Buamim, President and CEO OF Dubai Chamber, who described GBF Africa 2021 as an ideal platform for African businessmen and investors to network with their UAE counterparts.

WETEX, DSS enable thousands of students to learn about sustainable development

DUBAI, The Water, Energy, Technology, and Environment Exhibition (WETEX) and Dubai Solar Show (DSS) organised by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) every year, witness a large turnout from public and private schools and universities.

In its previous 22 editions, WETEX and DSS have attracted thousands of students who have displayed their innovations to many others and taken part in seminars and specialised workshops.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, Founder and Chairman of WETEX and DSS, said that the exhibition provides an ideal opportunity for academic innovators and inventors to present their green and sustainable projects, participate in numerous seminars and specialised workshops by an array of experts to discuss the latest technologies and solutions in the green economy; smart cities; innovation; and sustainable development, in addition to meeting innovators and inventors to exchange ideas and experiences.

The previous Green Week attracted about 14,000 students and teachers from public and private universities worldwide to learn about DEWA’s leading experiences in promoting conservation and sustainability at school and at home. The Green Week stand included different corners to provide visitors with a rich and unique experience and enhance their happiness level, which reached 95.98%.

In conjunction with the exhibitions, 1,045 individuals participated in the Green Pledge on DEWA’s website. They pledged to follow a sustainable lifestyle and adopt conservation in their daily activities. These measures include using LED light bulbs, adjusting the AC to 24 degrees Celsius, and installing water saving devices.

Adopting these practices will save 13.5 gigawatt hours of electricity every year, equal to using 83,000 LED light bulbs every year. These will also save up to 28 Million Imperial Gallons of water, equal to 255 million 500ml water bottles; and reduce 6,319 tonnes of carbon emissions. DEWA organised a raffle draw for three prizes for those who participated in the pledge.

WETEX and DSS 2021 are held from 5th to 7th October at Expo 2020 Dubai. Students can participate in several competitions during the exhibition to win valuable prizes. Every student receives a certificate of participation in the exhibition.
