UAE humanitarian delegation visits Chad-based Emirati field hospital in Amdjarass

AMDJARASS, Chad, 22nd July, 2023 (WAM) — A delegation from the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC), the Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation and the Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation, in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, visited the Amdjarass-based UAE field hospital in Chad. The UAE established the field hospital in implementation of the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to support Sudanese refugees in Chad and provide urgent humanitarian aid. The delegation’s visit aims to follow up on the hospital’s operations. Dr. Ahmed Obaid Al Dhaheri, Head of the ERC delegation in Chad, said that the visit of the UAE’s delegation is an extension of the UAE’s deep-rooted humanitarian approach to helping those in need, and is a translation of the UAE President’s directives and the follow up of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra Region and Chairman of the ERC. He explained that the delegation’s objective aims at checking up on the hospital’s operations that provides various medical services, from check-ups and diagnosis to surgeries, to target groups, including women, children and the elderly of Sudanese refugees in Chad, as well as to the local community. Al Dhaheri affirmed that the visit’s purpose is to identify and meet the medical, food and humanitarian needs of refugees and provide them with support, in a step aimed at alleviating their suffering due to the current situation in their country, adding that the UAE’s medical and humanitarian aid and continuous support seek to help Chad meet its commitments entailed by its welcoming refugees on its lands. A group of patients at the hospital commended the UAE’s tireless efforts and care to support them through providing medical services, as well as the medical and nursing staff, indicating that the hospital had alleviated their suffering.

Jordan’s wood, furniture exports reach 70 markets globally-JCI

The Kingdom’s furniture industry has made “large” achievements in terms of its quality, which reached markets of 70 countries globally, Representative of Wood and Furniture Industry Sector in Jordan Chamber of Industry (JCI), Taher Khaled, said. In a statement on Saturday, Khaled referred to the “remarkable” role played by the sector’s companies in stimulating the national economy and providing job opportunities for Jordanians, referring to their capability to increase national exports and attract new investments. Khaled said the Kingdom’s furniture industry is a “key” industrial sector that would contribute to reducing unemployment rates, in line with goals of Economic Modernization Vision (EMV), as it relies on “skilled” workers who have “high” accuracy and creativity. Khaled added that the furniture industry supports wide sub-sectors, including carpentry, upholstery, interior design and decoration, indicating that the sector’s activity locally is largely linked to growth of the construction and urban activity sectors, while its products are used in equipment of restaurants, hotels, schools, hospitals and many other economic activities. Jordan’s furniture industry, he noted, expanded to include a series of establishments with a “large” level of production, which meet a wide part of needs of the local and foreign markets and various products, due to the sector’s interdependence with other industries, which made it a “fertile” environment for investment and entrepreneurship. Khaled said the sector is a worker-intensive industry, employing more than 10,000 people, the majority are Jordanians, at a rate of more than 90% of its total workforce, employed at approximately 2,140 establishments nationwide. He explained that the volume of investment within the sector amounted to about JD300 million, which is viewed substantially to have “high” productivity and added value, with “professional and creative” technical workforce. The sector’s production reaches about JD321 million and its added value constitutes approximately 40% of the total production, he pointed out. During 2022, he indicated that the sector’s exports amounted to nearly JD34 million, adding that more than 60 products are manufactured by the sector.

Ministry, local software company ink agreement to train youth on cybersecurity

The Ministry of Youth and Green Circle Software Company signed on Saturday a joint cooperation agreement to train young people on cybersecurity. According to a ministry’s statement, the agreement, which targets graduates of communications and information technology majors and young people who are interested in cybersecurity within the age group of 20-30 years, was signed by the ministry’s Secretary-General Hussein Jabour, and the company’s the Director General Muhammad Khudari. The agreement aims to introduce young people to the basics of modern technology, boost their knowledge in cybersecurity and its impact on societies and countries and introduce them to the opportunities offered by these emerging technologies, in addition to empowering those who work with young people in cybersecurity.

Orange Jordan, JOPAC sign agreement for cloud storage solutions

Orange Jordan and the Jordan Payments and Clearing Company (JOPAC) on Saturday signed a partnership agreement to provide JOPAC with digital and secure storage solutions. According to a statement by Orange Jordan, the partnership will enable JOPAC, which is the technical arm for the chambers of industry, to transfer critical information technology systems and applications to cloud computing systems, leading to significant reductions in operational costs by scrapping expensive equipment and software in the workplace. The telecommunications company said that, thanks to this partnership, JOPAC will benefit from a more flexible information technology infrastructure, enabling it to respond swiftly to changing market conditions and evolving customer needs. Executive Vice President/Executive Director of the Corporate Sector at Orange Jordan Sami Smeirat said that the partnership made it possible to provide JOPAC with the cloud computing services they need to achieve their strategic goals with high efficiency. For her part, the CEO of JOPAC Maha Bahou stressed that Orange Jordan’s experience in this field allowed their company to provide excellent customer service to achieve its business goals in a more efficient and effective manner.

Jordan wins gold, two bronze medals in Asian Karate Championships

Jordan’s karate team picked up on Saturday a gold medal and two bronze medals at the 19th edition of the Asian Karate Championships which is currently being held in Malaysia. Karateka Muhammad Jaafari won the gold medal, while Abdullah Hammad and Joud Darous each picked up a bronze medal, raising the total of medals the national team won during this championship to five in total; two golds, a silver and two bronzes.

Amman International Summer Shopping Festival to kick off next Thursday-IPCO

Activities of the 21st Amman International Summer Shopping Festival are scheduled to kick off next Thursday, at Jordan International Exhibition Center in Mecca Mall, under auspices of Lower House Speaker, Ahmad Safadi. Large local industrial companies and international firms from Palestine, Iran, Pakistan, Egypt and Syria, will participate in the festival, which is organized by International Promoters Company for Marketing and Exhibitions (IPCO). The 10-day event, which will open its doors from 4pm until 11am, features multiple exhibits, primarily food industries, furniture, clothes and accessories, plastic and chemical industries (detergents), antiques and gifts. In a statement Saturday, IPCO general manager, Raed Abu Sa’ada, said entry to the festival venues will be free of charge, adding that direct sales service is provided to its visitors, in addition to distributing gifts and prizes, and holding competitions and activities for children. The festival, which will be held on an area of 11,000 square meters, is a “key” shopping and entertainment exhibition held locally, as it provides an opportunity for the Kingdom’s Arab guests, Jordanian expatriates and residents to see high development and competitiveness of the local industry, according to Abu Sa’ada. The festival, he noted, brings together “major” local, Arab and international industry companies in a single place, which constitutes a “true” opportunity for businesspeople to meet factory owners and merchants, learn about their products and establish inter-commercial partnerships. He said such events contribute to promoting the local industry and the Kingdom’s business and investment environment and strengthening its role as a “distinguished” destination for family tourism, especially from the Arab Gulf countries.
