Guterres says Ramadan ‘opportunity’ to achieve truce in Gaza

Amman: UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres discussed Monday reaching a humanitarian truce in Gaza since Ramadan would be a “good opportunity” to realise a ceasefire.

According to Anadolu, Guterres said, “Yet even though Ramadan has begun – the killing, bombing and bloodshed continue in Gaza,” Guterres told journalists.

He added, “My strongest appeal today is to honour the spirit of Ramadan by silencing the guns – and removing all obstacles to ensure the delivery of lifesaving aid at the speed and massive scale required,”

King, Crown Prince receive cables on occasion of Ramadan

Amman: His Majesty King Abdullah II has received cables from leaders of Arab and Muslim countries on the occasion of Ramadan, as well as from senior officials and officers, and representatives of civil society organisations in the Kingdom.

According to a royal court statement, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II received similar cables on the occasion of the holy month.

King receives Vatican secretary for relations with states

Amman: His Majesty King Abdullah II on Monday received Holy See Secretary for Relations with States and International Organisations Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, at Al Husseiniya Palace.

According to a royal court statement, His Majesty asked the archbishop to express best wishes to Pope Francis, highlighting the deep-rooted relations between Jordan and the Vatican.

The meeting covered the dangerous developments in Gaza, with the King reiterating the importance of imposing a ceasefire and guaranteeing the delivery of sufficient aid through all possible means.

During the meeting, attended by His Royal Highness Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad, His Majesty’s chief adviser for religious and cultural affairs and personal envoy, the King stressed the need to stop Israeli violations and settler attacks against Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, warning they could lead to an explosion in the region.

His Majesty urged unity among churches in Jerusalem in support of safeguarding the historical and legal
status quo.

For his part, Archbishop Gallagher commended Jordan’s role in safeguarding holy sites in Jerusalem, under the Hashemite Custodianship.

He expressed the Vatican’s interest in supporting the humanitarian response in Gaza, and efforts to provide relief and medical aid to the Strip.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Director of the Office of His Majesty Jafar Hassan, and the archbishop’s accompanying delegation attended the meeting.

Army Commander, Bahraini envoy talk cooperation

Amman: The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Major General Yousef Huneiti, and the Bahraini ambassador to Jordan, Ahmed Ruwai, Monday discussed cooperation.

The meeting in Amman focused on enhancing cooperation between the armed forces of Jordan and Bahrain.

The Head of the Government of National Unity, Abdul-Hamid Dbeibah, stressed his support for the efforts of the UN Envoy, Abdoulaye Bathily, that aim to bring all Libyan actors together to set a roadmap that will lead the country to the elections in accordance with free and fair laws.

According to the communication office of the PM, this came during his meeting with Bathily yesterday to discuss the latest developments in the political situation and lead the country to the elections.

The PM’s office quoted Bathily as saying that the UNSMIL listens to all Libyan political and social actors, stressing the UNSMIL’s role in ensuring stability in the country by bringing together all actors to reach a stage of stability through holding elections.

The Joint Meeting Parties (JMP) congratulated the Leader of the Revolution, Sayyed. Abdul Malik Badr Al-Din Al-Houthi, the President and members of the Supreme Political Council, the President and members of the caretaker government, and all the Yemeni people and the Islamic Ummah, on the occasion of the blessed month of Ramadan.

The Joint Meeting Parties considered in a statement received by Saba the month of Ramadan an educational and faith station to provide piety and closeness to God Almighty with acts of righteousness, charity and jihad for the sake of God and stand the positions of the Holy Quran and take responsibility at all levels.

It pointed out that the importance of the month of Ramadan lies in the fact that it is an extension of the first battle of Muslims separating between infidelity and faith in Badr, and as a month of jihad and marabout, and a month of victory for the nation’s causes, especially the Palestinian cause.
