Meeting chaired by Water Minister discusses epidemiological situation of watery diarrheal disease


A meeting in Sana’a today,Sunday, chaired by the caretaker Minister of Water and Environment, Engineer Abdulraqeeb Al-Sharmani, discussed the epidemiological situation of watery diarrhea and the emergence of many cases of cholera.

The meeting, which included the Deputy Resident Representative of UNICEF in Sanaa, Luciano Calistini, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Water for the Water Sector, Engineer Abdul Salam Al-Hakimi, the heads of the General Authority for Water Resources, Engineer Hadi Quraia, and the General Authority for Rural Water Projects, Adel Saleh Bader, touched on the mechanism of coordination, unification and support of efforts aimed at confronting and preventing the spread of the epidemic.

He touched on the good experience possessed by the staff of the Ministry of Water and Environment through previous experience in dealing with the epidemic and reducing its damage and disastrous repercussions on society.

The Caretaker Minister of Water and Environment stressed the importance of everyo
ne assuming responsibility in moving according to available capabilities, rearranging priorities and intervening directly to support the emergency response plan, joint between the Ministries of Water and Environment, Public Health and Population.

For his part, the head of the Water Resources Authority, Engineer Quraiah, indicated that the authority worked to monitor water quality in the previous campaign to confront the cholera epidemic.

He stated that UNICEF’s continued support for water quality control activity will contribute to overcoming epidemics, urging the supply of chlorine and hygiene materials and enhancing community awareness to limit the spread of the epidemic.

In turn, Bader, Chairman of the Rural Water Projects Authority, reviewed the efforts of the authority’s leadership and cadres in preparing the emergency response plan and raising readiness to implement interventions to confront the cholera epidemic.

Health Ministry implements second and third phases of distributing impregnated mosquito nets in four provinces


The Ministry of Public Health and Population concluded the second and third phases of the campaign to distribute mosquito nets impregnated with long-lasting insecticide in four provinces.

The campaign, which was implemented by the National Malaria Control Program over a period of 22 days, targeted 19 districts in Hodeida, Hajjah, Taiz and Marib to reduce the spread of malaria and dengue fever.

In conclusion, in Al-Duha District in Al-Hodeida province, the Director General of the National Malaria Control Program, Dr. Mithaq Al-Sada, explained that the campaign aimed to protect 1,953,900 residents and displaced people in the targeted districts through the distribution of 976,950 mosquito nets in cooperation with health offices in the four provinces.

Dr. Al-Sada reported that mosquito nets were distributed in Maqbana District in Taiz province and Serwah District in Marib province.

He stressed the importance of distributing long-term insecticide-impregnated mosquito nets and delivering them to various areas w
here mosquitoes breed during the current period, especially during their breeding season, indicating that the distribution process comes within the framework of the program’s strategy to combat malaria and dengue fever.

The Director-General of the program called on citizens to preserve mosquito nets and use them optimally to protect them from malaria and dengue fever. He praised the cooperation of local councils and citizens with field teams, supervisors and health workers, numbering two thousand people distributed in the targeted provinces.

For his part, Director of the Health Office in Hodeida, Dr. Khaled Al-Madani, praised the efforts of the Ministry of Health, represented by the Malaria Control Program, in eliminating dengue fever, malaria, and mosquito-borne diseases in the province.

He stated that the campaign targeted seven districts in the second phase and four districts in the third, by distributing 700,000 mosquito nets to protect 1,300,000 people in the procince.

Dr. Al-Madani urged citizens to
adhere to the instructions of the field teams and preventive measures to combat the mosquitoes that transmit the disease.

Meteorology forecasts thunderstorms and sea turbulence


The National Center of Meteorology and Early Warning expects thunderstorms in several provinces, and very active winds that will cause sea turbulence during the next 24 hours.

According to the weather forecast issued by the centre, a copy of which was received by the Yemeni News Agency (Saba), heavy thunderstorms are expected, which may be accompanied by hail, in parts of Sa’ada, Amran, Hajjah, Al Mahwit, Sana’a, Dhamar, Raymah, Al Jawf, Marib and Shabwa.

The Center called on citizens in areas where rain is expected to fall, to be careful and not to be in the paths of torrential rains and the depths of valleys during and after the rain.

It warned vehicle drivers on mountain roads against crossing ground bridges when torrents are flowing, and against the noticeable decrease in horizontal visibility as a result of the formation of fog .

The Center also warned fishermen and seagoers in Bab al-Mandab, Gulf of Aden , the western coasts of sea turbulence and waves rising to five metres.
