Etisalat launches Digital Summer Camp to empower future leaders

DUBAI, Etisalat has announced the launch of its first-ever virtual ‘Digital Summer Camp’ designed to equip the children of Etisalat employees with necessary skills in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) disciplines.

Fostering innovation and skills needed for the future, Etisalat Academy is providing an opportunity for 150 children to learn and implement robotics, design, and coding.

Commenting on this initiative, Dena Almansoori, Group Chief Human Resources Officer, Etisalat, said, “In line with the vision of Etisalat, we are pleased to launch our first-ever virtual ‘Digital Summer Camp’ for the children of our Etisalat family. We aim to equip these future leaders with competencies that shape tomorrow while planting the seed towards understanding the STEM and digital landscape. Etisalat believes this initiative will nurture the future digital architects and dreamers of tomorrow.

“The programme will boost innovative thinking by encouraging children to go from design to creation through real-world applications. Additionally, the camp will help build confidence in the digital landscape, while opening young minds to various possibilities.”

During the programme, students will undertake exciting tasks, which include robotics, 3D modelling, design, coding and electronics. The children will learn how to code a robot using either block-based coding or a text-based interface; get to know how to make simple patterns and complex geometry in three dimensions, and have a clear grasp on how to prototype electronic circuit designs and simulate them within their browsers.

The camp, which began on 24th July, 2021, will run for two hours every Saturday for five weeks until 21st August. Each participating child from the ages of 6 to 12 will receive a certificate of completion of the programme, and a chance to win motivational prizes throughout its duration.

DAFZA records significant growth in sales revenue in H1 2021

DUBAI, The Dubai Airport Freezone Authority (DAFZA) has announced the results of its operational performance for the first half of 2021. The free zone achieved growth in new sales revenues with an increase of 8.3 percent, which resulted from the rise of 24 percent in the leased areas compared to the same period last year.

These record results are an extension of the strategic plan set by DAFZA at the beginning of 2021, which aims to target the recovering markets after lifting the restrictions on global trade movement in a post-pandemic environment. In addition, the results show an increase in demand for the logistic units and leasing by more than double when compared to 2020.

H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of DAFZA, said, “DAFZA’s strong performance in the first half of this year confirms its ability to attract and sustain foreign direct investments. As well as its strategic role in supporting the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, in positioning Dubai as the capital of the global economy. Our results were an expected response to the recovery of the global trade movement and the opening of markets, proving the high confidence the emirate enjoys globally.”

“The emirate will be hosting the upcoming major global event Expo 2020, which will shed light on the exceptional experience led by the UAE and the emirate of Dubai in directing and attracting investments and creating opportunities. This means the coming phase will be a promising period of recovery that will positively reflect on our economy and the other neighboring markets,” Sheikh Ahmed added.

DAFZA achieved strong results by launching a set of economic incentives and packages to attract new investors. This led to an increase in the number of registered companies by 88.4 percent compared to the same period in 2020.

DAFZA maintained its position as a preferred destination for multinational companies and succeeded under the current circumstances in increasing the number of registrations for those companies by 23.5 percent.

DAFZA also supported small and medium-sized companies by providing advanced solutions that create opportunities for commercial and service expansion in the region. As a result, DAFZA recorded an increase in the number of small and medium companies by 96.4 percent compared to the same period last year.

DAFZA’s total trade reached more than US$39 billion in the first quarter of 2021, with an increase of 4.7 percent compared to the same period in 2020. The free zone also achieved a trade surplus of AED 2.44 billion. As a result, DAFZA’s contribution to Dubai’s trade accounted for 11 percent during the first quarter of 2021, in which it maintained the same level in the first quarter of 2020.

Dr. Mohammed Al Zarooni, Director-General of DAFZA, said, “DAFZA’s achievements during the first six months of this year highlight its relentless pursuit and keenness to provide a single global business model, underlining its leadership as one of the most advanced and developed free zones in the world. The free zone also plays a key role in supporting the direction of the UAE and the emirate of Dubai in economic diversification, as DAFZA supports more than 1,800 companies across more than 20 economic sectors.”

Emirates’ home check-in service records over 2,500 users during July travel peak

DUBAI, Over 2,500 Emirates customers enhanced their travel experience by adding innovative home check-in services to their bookings in July 2021.

The airline’s popular service enables passengers departing from Dubai to quickly and efficiently complete the check-in process in the comfort of their home and enjoy a swift and smooth journey through the airport.

During the peak summer travel departures from the UAE in July, Emirates’ home check-in services were typically booked for groups of four to five people, with travellers’ most popular destinations being Amman (Jordan), Beirut (Lebanon) and Male (Maldives). Thursdays and the Eid long weekend were particularly busy with up to 130 home check-ins completed and 150 pieces of baggage delivered to the airport a day across Dubai.

Underscoring the popularity of the service, some 400 home check-ins were for repeat customers who had already taken advantage of the service before.

During the safe and convenient home check-in process, customer-oriented agents check in travellers for their flights, issue boarding passes, weigh and tag their sanitised baggage and ensure these are delivered to the airport and loaded onto the aircraft.

Emirates customers can easily book their home check-in service on emirates.com up to 24 hours before their flight and receive the service up to 8 hours before scheduled departure time.

Customers also have the option to book fast-track marhaba services to help whisk them through airport immigration for an even more contactless on ground experience. In addition, travellers can also book pre-travel COVID-19 testing, where results are shared with customers digitally. All passengers who test negative for COVID-19 receive a medical certificate within 24 to 48 hours to meet the entry guidelines of their destination.

For their return to Dubai, customers can choose to book a land and leave service which enables them to proceed directly home while trained agents collect their baggage, clear it through customs, sanitize the baggage, and then deliver it directly to their doorstep.
