Al Ahly secure Egypt’s Super Cup with easy 2-0 win in Abu Dhabi

AL AIN, In a postponed local Super Cup on Friday in Abu Dhabi, the Red Devils secured an easy 2-0 win against Zamalek as Bruno Savio scored once, and Marcel Koller won his first championship as coach.

Six minutes before half-time, Brazilian forward Savio earned Al Ahly the lead by taking advantage of a terrible error by Zamalek’s Zakaria El Wardi to curl the ball home from the edge of the box. Savio joined the Cairo Giant from Club Bolivar in Bolivia during the off-season.

The Reds secured the victory in the injury time when substitute Karim Fouad completed a superb team play with a straightforward tap-in at the far post.

With six of their 12 Super Cup victories coming at the cost of Zamalek, tonight’s win increased Al Ahly’s record to 12 victories.

Sharjah Women’s Sports Club athletes win 29 medals at Athletics Championship

SHARJAH, Proving their mettle once again, the athletes of the Sharjah Women’s Sports Club won 29 medals at a two-day Athletics Championship hosted by the Dubai Police Officers Club.

The championship, held on Friday and Saturday, witnessed the participation of more than 500 players representing 19 clubs. The 19 players of the Sharjah Women’s Sports Club competed in the various disciplines of the event.

The Sharjah Women’s Sports Club female athletes bagged medals in four different categories. By finishing on top in a number of categories, the Sharjah Women’s Sports Club athletes claimed a whopping 19 gold. They also clinched eight silver and settled for two bronze medals.

Delivering a flawless performance, Fatima Al Hosani won gold in the shot and later claimed silver in the discus throw.

Maryam Mohammed added another gold to the club’s tally after finishing on top in the long jump. She also clinched silver in the 400-metre hurdles category.

It was golden double for Mahra Abdul Rahim as she bagged top spots at the podiums of 400-metre hurdles and in 1,500-metre race.

The gold rush continued for Sharjah Women’s Sports Club with Fatima Ali Al Balushi capturing yellow metal in the 100-metre and 400-metre races, respectively.

Marwa Ahmed Al Amoudi bagged gold in the 5,000-metre race and silver after taking second place in the 1,500 metres. Noor Ahmed also took a gold medal in the discus throw and silver in the javelin throw, while Jawaher Farida won the silver medal for the 100 metres. Athba Ahmed settled for a bronze medal in the same race.

In the youth category of the event, Kenya Sara took two gold medals following victories in the discus throw and javelin throw. Hessa Mohammed Al Balushi claimed the silver medal in the shot put and the bronze medal in the discus throw competitions. Hamsa Mohammed won the gold medal in the 100-metre race, and Farida Mohammed took the silver in the discus throw.

In the cubs’ category, the Sharjah Women’s Sports Club athletes were able to win five gold and one silver medal, with Jouri Hussain winning the long jump final, and Alia Abdul Alim taking top spot in the 1000 metres race. Maryam Al Farsi won two gold medals after winning the 300 and 50 metres races. The relay team consisting of Dana Hussein, Jouri Hussein, Alia Abdul Alim, and Maryam Al Farsi also won the gold, and Amira Abdul Alim won the silver medal for the 300 metres.

In the women’s category, the Sharjah Women’s Sports Club players dominated the 100 metres and 400 metres races, with Jasmine Sofi winning both the titles. Amani Luli also claimed the two golds after winning the shot put and discus throw.

Fatima Al Balushi expressed her joy at winning the 100- and 400-metre gold medals in the first athletics competition, which featured fierce competition among all the players from the participating clubs.

She added that her focus would now shift to setting a new personal record at the upcoming championships.

The archery team of the Sharjah Women’s Sports Club also registered significant results on the opening day of the Emirates Archery League with the participation of 110 players from 11 clubs, which is held at the Hamriyah Cultural Sports Club.

Seven players from the SWSC participated in the competition. Aisha Jassim progressed to the final in the bow category with a score of 570 points.

In the women’s under-21 category, Fatima Mohammed Rashid qualified for the final round with a score of 537, Amna Al-Awadhi with a score of 505, Maha Al-Hosani with a score of 415 points, and Hessa Al-Awadhi with 376 points. In the U-18 category, Hind Mohammed Rashid and Rawda Al-Awadhi made it to the finals with 531 points and 530 points, respectively.

Meanwhile, playing in group games of the Women’s Open Championship for basketball, the Sharjah Women’s Sports Club team squared off against Champions Academy and won their second match 59-19. The club made a winning start following their big win in the first round over Ballers Nation.

The Eastern Region and Central Region teams of the Sharjah Women’s Sports Club were also in action in the third round of the championship. They first lost to the Jam Academy team with a score of 45-70, while the Central Region also suffered defeat at the hands of the Dubai Tribe Trip team, 81-85.

Fatima Zaqrouba, coach of the Sharjah Women’s Sports Club’s basketball team for the Eastern region, reaffirmed that the team is still in the stage of developing and establishing a strong base, pointing out that the losses in the championship came against a very strong team where the performance improved from game to game.

UAE President’s Cup final to be broadcast on VOX Cinemas screens

DUBAI, The UAE Football Association (UAEFA) and Majid Al Futtaim have signed a partnership agreement, under which Friday’s final match of the UAE President’s Cup, ‘Al Wahda vs. Sharjah’, will be broadcast live on VOX Cinemas screens across four key locations in the UAE.

The signing ceremony took place at VOX Cinemas Mirdif City Centre, in the presence of Mohammed Abdullah Hazzam Al Dhaheri, Secretary-General of the UAEFA, and a number of representatives from both sides.

VOX Cinemas is set to screen the long-anticipated final match between Al Wahda and Sharjah across the UAE’s largest malls, namely Yas Mall in Abu Dhabi, Mirdif City Centre in Dubai, City Centre Al Zahia in Sharjah, and City Centre Fujairah. Tickets are available for sale online through Platinum List and UAEFA’s official social media accounts.

UAE Pro League completes preparations for World Leagues Forum

ABU DHABI, The UAE Pro League has completed preparations for hosting the annual meeting of the World Leagues Forum (WLF), taking place in Dubai on 18th and 19th of October.

The meeting, which will be held for the first time in the region, will be attended by an elite group of decision-makers, as well as, representatives from the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), the European Club Association, the International Federation of Professional Footballers (FIFPro), the International Football Association Board “IFAB” and the International Labor Organization “ILO.”

The two-day sessions, which will be held at Dubai Festival City, aim to discuss issues related to the governance of global football, rules of the game, integrity, and coordination of international schedules to ensure the availability of players within the context of international competitions, the regulation of transfers and the regulation of agents and intermediaries.

The meeting will provide recommendations which help develop the football industry and overcome current and expected challenges. It will also probe the latest development in digital assets in the football world and the mechanism for applying them.

DP World announced as title sponsor of World Padel Championship in Dubai

DUBAI, The organising committee for the World Padel Championship today confirmed DP World as the official title sponsor of the upcoming IPF World Padel Championship in Dubai. The federation’s flagship biennial tournament is set to take place 31st October to 5th November at a refitted Dubai Duty Free Tennis Stadium.

 

Now officially titled ‘DP World Dubai World Padel Championship 2022’, the event will be held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, and hosted by the UAE Padel Association (UAEPA) in association with Dubai Sports Council and Dubai Department of Economy & Tourism (DET). This will be the first time in the championship’s history that the prize pool has reached €500,000.

 

“I am delighted to announce DP World as the official title sponsor for the upcoming edition of the championship here in Dubai,” said Sheikh Saeed bin Maktoum bin Juma Al Maktoum, President of the UAEPA. “With their unrivalled experience in supporting some of the largest local and international sporting events, this milestone sponsorship for the World Padel Championship will only help foster the UAE’s position as a global capital of padel, and increase exposure to what is already one of the world’s fastest-growing sports.”

 

The DP World Dubai World Padel Championship will feature separate men’s and women’s categories, with 16 national teams set to compete in each competition.

An eight-man squad will represent the Arabian Gulf against an impressive roster of the game’s leading countries, including Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Egypt, France, Great Britain, Italy, Mexico, the Netherlands, Paraguay, Portugal, Spain, and Uruguay.

 

National teams that have qualified for the women’s competition include Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Chile, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Mexico, the Netherlands, Paraguay, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Uruguay, and the USA.

Sharjah Women’s Sports Club to represent UAE at West Asia Regional Junior Championships qualifiers

SHARJAH, The Sharjah Women’s Sports Club (SWSC) female athletes representing the UAE national badminton team will take part in the qualifiers of the West Asia Regional Junior Championships 2022.

 

Qualifiers for the Arab region will take place at the Xtra Sports Badminton Academy in Sharjah on Sunday.

 

The West Asia Regional Junior Championships 2022 are scheduled to take place in Kuwait from November 4–12.

 

This was the second time the players of the SWSC participated in the game after badminton was added to the club’s list of approved sports.

 

Fifteen female players from the Sharjah Women’s Sports Club, donning the UAE colours, will participate in the qualifiers. Five of them reached the final stage. Hind Saeed Al Mazrouei also qualified to the Championships of the U-15 category.

 

Belqees Al Shehhi, Head of the Individual Games Department at Sharjah Women’s Sports, said the Sharjah Women’s Sports Club players are ready to compete in the qualifiers to secure a spot at the West Asia Regional Junior Championships.

 

She revealed that this will be the second time the badminton players of the Sharjah Women’s Sports Club are taking part in the game following the adoption of the game. The last time they competed was in a badminton tournament held at the Al Nasr Club in Dubai in August and witnessed the participation of 38 players from three different clubs.

 

The Sharjah Women’s Sports Club’s fencing team marked the beginning of the new season following their participation in the Federation Championship held for 13–15 year olds, which took place at Asmaa Bint Al-Numan Hall in Dubai.
