The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi to unveil the Emirate’s latest healthcare innovations at GITEX Global Week 2022

The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH), the regulator of the healthcare sector in the Emirate, is set to showcase Abu Dhabi’s pioneering digital healthcare model and latest innovations at the 42nd edition of GITEX Global Week 2022, taking place in Dubai from the 10th to the 14th of October at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

DoH visitors will have the chance to experience and preview the latest innovations in healthcare including health information exchange system ‘Malaffi’, sector wide cybersecurity programs and robotic and AI-based innovations among many other innovative projects which have anchored quality and efficiency across the sector.

As part of Abu Dhabi’s strategy to drive a knowledge-based economy, DoH will showcase Abu Dhabi birthed technologies from five rising start-ups across the health-tech ecosystem. The start-ups have presented breakthrough solutions and treatments utlising Artificial Intelligence and robotics.

On the side-lines of the event, DoH will initiate partnerships with leading players to boost knowledge and experience sharing that foster excellence and innovation in healthcare to elevate the overall health journey and patient experience in the Emirate. In addition, an esteemed line-up of DoH representatives will participate in panel discussions and reveal key partnerships during the five-day event.

Positioning itself as an innovation hub, Abu Dhabi is on the way to complete digitalising the majority of its healthcare services. The Emirate has connected 100% of its hospitals to Malaffi, a first-in-the-region health information exchange (HIE) platform that safely and securely connects public and private healthcare providers, creating a centralised database of unified patient records, improving healthcare quality and patient outcomes. The Emirate has also applied virtual autopsy (post-mortem imaging), the first of its kind in the region radiological imaging technique.

DoH continuously supports start-ups throughout the different development phases, from ideation to introduction and scaling to international markets. The Department is currently extending support to over 60 licensed start-ups and in communication with over 300 start-up companies worldwide.

In a continues bid to elevate research and development across the healthcare sector, DoH launched the first edition of the Healthcare Research and Innovation Grant, a monetary fund that fosters research and innovation efforts among healthcare professionals across Abu Dhabi’s healthcare sector. The Grant seeks to fuel healthy competition across the healthcare ecosystem in the Emirate as well as birth unique research projects and innovative products, technologies and services in Abu Dhabi’s healthcare facilities.
