Senate President, Kuwaiti Ambassador Talk Ties


Amman: Senate President Faisal Fayez engaged in discussions with Kuwaiti Ambassador Hamad Al Marri on Wednesday, exploring avenues to fortify bilateral relations for mutual benefit and broader interests of the Arab and Islamic world.

During the meeting, Fayez expressed his satisfaction with the robust nature of bilateral ties, commending their elevated status across political, economic, and investment domains.

The discussions extended to the current situation in the occupied Palestinian territories and the Gaza Strip. Fayez emphasized the imperative of a resolute and effective Arab stance to halt the egregious Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people.

He underscored the urgency to cease the genocide and war crimes perpetrated by the occupation, resulting in the tragic loss of thousands of lives and injuries, particularly among women and children. The pervasive impact of this aggression on essential elements of society, such as hospitals, schools, and infrastructure in the Strip, was also highlight
ed.

Fayez decried Israel’s persistent defiance of international laws and conventions, labeling it an outlaw state. He questioned the prolonged silence of countries supporting Israel and called for Western leaders to unequivocally convey that “enough is enough.”

He questioned whether the international community deems the loss of thousands of Palestinian lives insufficient to prompt decisive action against the ongoing atrocities.

The Kuwaiti ambassador, in turn, lauded the significant role and unwavering efforts of His Majesty King Abdullah II in addressing regional issues, fostering peace, and championing just Arab causes, notably the Palestinian cause.

Al Marri expressed Kuwait’s eagerness to fortify relations with Jordan across diverse sectors, placing particular emphasis on enhancing economic and investment partnerships and activating collaborative initiatives.

Labor Market Sees Growth with Over 46,000 New Jobs in 2022


Amman: The Jordanian labor market witnessed the creation of approximately 46,283 new jobs during the latter half of 2022, marking a rise of 3,062 opportunities compared to the first half of the same year, according to the annual report released Wednesday by the Department of Statistics (DoS) on fresh employment prospects in the Kingdom.

The report highlighted that the total number of new jobs in the second half of 2022 reached around 86,284, with 40,001 positions remaining vacant. Among the net job opportunities created, 71.1 percent were for males, totaling 32,888 jobs, while females accounted for 28.9 percent with 13,395 new job opportunities. In comparison to the first half of 2022, male job opportunities decreased by 3,178, while female opportunities increased by 6,240.

The data revealed variations in net job creation based on educational levels and gender. Net job opportunities for males with a bachelor’s degree or higher constituted 39.2 percent, whereas for females, it was 63.7 percent.

The private
sector played a significant role in job creation, contributing 78.7 percent (36,405 jobs) of the net job opportunities, while the public sector accounted for 20.4 percent (9,453 jobs). Non-governmental organizations had a minimal share, contributing 0.7 percent.

Amman Governorate led in job creation, contributing 61 percent to the total net job opportunities during the second half of 2022, while Ma’an Governorate had the lowest percentage, with a mere 0.2 percent.

Regarding nationality, Jordanians secured 88.6 percent of the net job opportunities in the latter half of 2022, amounting to 41,013 jobs. This was a slight increase from the 87.9 percent recorded in the first half of the same year.

The survey results indicated that the wholesale and retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles sector generated the most net job opportunities, creating 9,489 jobs. The education sector followed closely, contributing 7,150 job opportunities.

In terms of professions, specialists accounted for 39.3 percen
t of the total net job opportunities created, while sales and service workers made up 33.2 percent.

Regarding reasons for seeking new employment, 54 percent of respondents cited conditions and the nature of work, including factors like workplace distance and working hours, while the remaining 46 percent cited other reasons.

Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi partners with Khalifa and Harvard universities

DUBAI: The Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) has partnered with Khalifa University College of Medicine and Health Sciences, and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health to develop a research agenda for strengthening scientific knowledge regarding the impact of pollutants on human health.

The project will guide future research by EAD and its partners in the public health sector in their efforts to strengthen scientific knowledge.

The results will inform future environmental monitoring programmes and the planning of interventions to reduce any adverse impacts on human health.

Ahmed Baharoon, Executive Director of Environment Information, Science and Outreach Management at EAD, said, “This collaboration will result in a thorough, systematic, and objective analysis of the current state of knowledge regarding the impact of pollutants in the environment on human health in Abu Dhabi. The findings will help us iden fy the key environmental pollutants from a public health perspective, which will help influe
nce EAD’s policy, regulatory and community engagement programmes.”

For the past 25 years, we have been an evidence-driven organisation; we develop our programmes through credible and accurate science and this research collaboration is a prime example of that.”

Dr. Senthil Kumar Raj Sekaran, the Vice Dean for Academic and Clinical Affairs at Khalifa University College of Medicine and Health Sciences, said, “This grant from EAD was instrumental in helping us partner with Harvard University and access the world-class talent they have in studying air pollution and devising mitigation efforts. Between the rich regional expertise within Khalifa University and the outstanding talent at Harvard University, we will be able to effectively contribute towards the EAD’s ultimate goals in mitigating the negative impacts of pollutants on human health.”

This partnership aims to identify and prioritise areas where current knowledge is inadequate and will benefit from this research. The Agency maintains a register of environmental research needs that identifies opportunities for the external research community to ensure EAD’s policies, regulations and educational outputs are based on sound science.

Rain-Related Skidding Identified as Cause in Balqa Bus Tragedy


Amman: The overturning of a bus in the Balqa area, which resulted in five fatalities and 35 injuries, including five individuals in critical condition, has been attributed to skidding in heavy rainfall, according to findings by a traffic investigation committee.

The committee, organized by the Traffic Department, completed its inquiry into the accident that occurred in the Salhoub area of Balqa, as reported by the media spokesperson for the Public Security Department.

ABU DHABI: H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, has received H.H. Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham Al Said, Omani Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, at the Presidential Flight in Abu Dhabi, on a friendly visit to the UAE.

H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan welcomed H.H. Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham Al Said and wished him a successful visit to the UAE, before engaging in warm conversation about the deeply rooted historical ties between the two countries and their people.

DCD delegation visits Republic of Korea to gain insights into social sector impact

ABU DHABI: A delegation from the Department of Community Development (DCD) made a benchmarking visit to the Republic of Korea to engage with subject-matter experts, share experiences, and gain deeper insights into social services and their impact. The delegation also learned about the country’s practices and experience.

The delegation included Dr. Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili, Chairman of the DCD; Salama Al Ameemi, Director-General of the Authority of Social Contribution (Ma’an); Mazen Jaber Al Dahmani, Executive Director of Financial and Administrator Affairs at DCD; and Shaikha Al Hosani, Executive Director of the Social Monitoring and Innovation Sector at DCD; and leaders from both the Abu Dhabi Executive Office and Abu Dhabi School of Government.

During the visit, the delegation received briefings on Korea’s social sector model, including its efforts towards sustainable social development and its impact on promoting social well-being across all segments of society. Emphasising the significance of leveraging
top international practices in services and social innovation, the delegation highlighted the importance of exchanging experiences with entities that have excelled in this sector. Such collaborations contribute significantly to reinforcing Abu Dhabi’s leadership role in community development.

The delegation met with representatives from several prominent Korean entities, including the Financial Services Commission, Korea Credit Guarantee Fund, the SK Group’s Center for Social Value Enhancement Studies, Korea Social Enterprise Promotion Agency, and Korea Technology Finance Corporation.

DCD’s delegation conducted a comprehensive review of the social impact measurement tools used by the Korean organisations, examined how they affect people, communities and wider society, and how they influence the decision-making process. The delegation also examined how these social impact measurement tools have been formulated and the measurement methodologies that define their outcomes and outputs.

Throughout the visit, th
e delegation also garnered insights into Korea’s most pressing social priorities and was briefed on several successful initiatives that have effectively improved the quality of life within the country.

In the spirit of collaboration, DCD’s delegation also shared insights into the wide array of its initiatives developed to meet the needs and aspirations of all society segments within Abu Dhabi and ensure their well-being.
